Nature has +always+ been unpredictable. There is nothing new except more reporting of the cyclones, earthquates, tsunamis, & etc. Bad news sells...a lot more than good news.

So....the news media reports bad news.

It's always been unpredictable. Remember the Earth is 6+ billions years old, has ben through ice ages, etc.. Humans expect things to stay the same, but it's a dynamic system. It's not going to. We should definitely make sure not to pollute it too much by monitoring the amount of Carbon Dioxide we put into the air.

Source(s): John Houghton's book: Global Warming. The book was a result of the IPCC, the buck ends at the IPCC, a United Nations group whose purpose is to investigate climate change.

The weather runs in cycles, changes happen because of natural events or sometimes human events. A volcano could erupt and change the weather patterns for a few years. There is no real answer except that, that is the way it is. Weather has never been completely predictable.

Nature has never ever ever been really predictable. Man tries. But is never truly successful.

And no more of these events are really happening than used to. We hear about more of these things because of better global media coverage. 100 years ago no one in the US would have heard of an EQ in Indonesia, but now its "as-it-happens" news.

This is not a new phenomenon. Earth has had these random events for millions of years, It's just we haven't had news (newspapers, then tv) except for the last 150 years or so, therefore we never knew what had happened in remote regions.

Its because there have been changes in the atmosphere, natural or man-made. As in the past there have been changes, like a major volcanic eruption, this leads to minor changes in the atmosphere which produces these disasters. Especially now, that man is a major contributor to these climatic changes.

They have ALWAYS been unpredictable. In fact they are more predictable now than they were 100 years ago.

This happened 10 miles from my house just 5 days ago! A lot of my family and friends live here. Not one person was killed in this tornado that went for 20 miles! Only minor injuries!
