Who's War and Who has gained the most?

Big news this is an American War bought and paid for both the Legislative and Executive Branches of our Government. Congress could take back the War Powers Act any time they want to. They won't because of this war and dumping their responsibilities onto one man and by blaming him they are gaining seats in Congress. Trust me they have no intention of ending this war until they absolutely have to.

Update:

Bryan - Very well said, I think you have a Full Time American attitude, good call and thank you for your thoughtful input.

    1. Whose War?

Well, this is technically not a war from our standpoint anymore. We won the 'war' when we went in and took Saddam out. I think everyone can agree on that. What happened next is the problem.

Insufficient research was done into the cultural complexities in Iraq. Realize that Iraq was created after WWII and there are three very distinct groups comprising its populace. This wasn't fully analyzed when calculating the eventual solution in Iraq... or was naively viewed as a situation capable of simple compromise.

    Are you still with me?

    2. Congress can't just 'take back the War Powers Act' because they lack the majority needed to override a veto... and thankfully, because an immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be disastrous. At the risk of being called a war-monger by the Liberal parrots on here... this war was justified and this effort to stabilize the nation is noble. If you were serious about supporting the troops, you'd applaud their efforts instead of fighting their ability to get their jobs done every step of the way. Does no one realize that just makes it take longer?

Personally, if I were running the 'war', I'd deploy all forces to the borders of Iraq and seal them off. Once the Iranian and Syrian insurgents are stopped from coming into the country, the Al Qaeda operatives there can be rooted out and the Iraqis can be given a deadline to get their government together... with no outside interference. This deadline would be secret... and not shared with anyone except those who need to know... so as not to tip off the terrorists as to our plans.

Once we pulled out of Iraq, I'd redeploy the entire force to Afghanistan and make a concerted effort to find Osama bin Laden and kill the Al Qaeda movement entirely. We have enough trouble looming on the horizon between an insane leader in both Iran and North Korea, a resurgent Russia posturing in old Cold War style and a dangerous situation in China... Al Qaeda needs to be squashed like the bug that it is.

    3. You're right, the Democrats are painting the picture of the war in a negative light so they can blame Bush to try to gain seats in the Senate and House... but their tactics have shown them for what they are and I'd not be the least bit surprised to see them not only lose the Presidential election but also to lose several seats and the majority in both houses of Congress.

Remember, the Republicans in Congress would block the Democrats from overriding Bush's veto in regards to the repeal of the War Powers Act, so that argument is a moot point.

Yes, there is no doubt that the DNC is profiting hansomely from this war. By election time '08, I'm sure the Democrats will have a 60 vote lock on the Senate and 2/3rds majority in the House. Which is why America needs to support 1 of the Republican Presidential candidates and try to knock off Hillary.

But the biggest winners of this war by far, are those invested in the military contractors and the military industrial complex. They are making an absolute financial killing off this war and as a result, should be paying for this war through increased taxation.

At no time in human history has the leadership of a country cut taxes on the ubber wealthy while starting 2 different wars. The wealthy and aristocrisy ALWAYS pays for war because they always have the most to gain in the long run.

From my understanding, the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate throughout this war, until last year. Obviously, the war-profiteering companies (i.e., Halliburton, Blackwater, Custer Battles, Bechtel, etc.) are gaining the most out of this war.

If I were to guess. The bulk of your tax money spent in Iraq was stolen by Iraqi politicians, military and contractors. They have been wily traders for 5000 years and have totally confounded any American method to account for the billions of unaccounted for dollars. The US has created an Iraqi class of billionaires by allowing them to control all the money. Also, although novices by comparison. the American Contractors have done almost as good job of stealing as much of your War taxes as the Iraqis. The poor slobs getting screwed are you, the taxpayer, and our American soldiers who are not getting the equipment and support they they need from our government or the Iraqis.

It's to their advantage to continue the war, lots of campaign contributions, lots of press coverage, votes for their canidates.

In 2012,they'll claim victory and get voted back in.

Of course they have to win in 2008 and that issue is still in doubt.

I agree. The Dems will not end the war, because it is the biggest issue they have on their side.

The 'War' allows them to spend our money like drunken sailors in a whorehouse.
