Chrysler Town & Country a/c - compressor?

I bought a 2000 Town & Country last September. The a/c worked fine until this Sept. I had a guy put in a can of stop leak and a can of freon. That helped for about a month. Now, the a/c isn't blowing out cold air again. I also noticed the defrost doesn't blow out cold air. The air is just like if I had it on vent instead of a/c. The compressor runs when it's on a/c. The guy that added the freon said that used to the compressor would shut off if it was low on freon. I wonder if there is a problem with the compressor or does it just need more freon? Anyone have any ideas?

You should NEVER put a can of stop leak in the ac system. You should have just replaced whatever was leaking. Make sure to tell the shop that you put that stuff in because most ac machines that shops own are easily over 5 thousand dollars and that will ruin their machine. More than likely you will need an ac kit installed which includes a new compressor. The average price is between a thousand and fifteen hundred dollars.

Some Chrysler ac compressors clutch will still engage when the freon level is low. The leak cannot be fixed with a stop leak product. Most often the evaporator core leaks on your ac system type. Have it checked by an Ase certified technician they can pinpoint your ac problems.

First your gonna wanna add some freon to the system to see if it does get cold again but do not overfill the system. Too much pressure is dangerous. If adding more freon doesnt work or the system is already full then your may have a clogged reciever /drier. Also have your mechanic run some leak detecting dye through the system to make certain there are no leaks.

With an A/C system, there are no short cuts. If you have a leak and are losing that much in a month, something is obviously wrong. They make stop-leak for cooling sys.oil sys.transmissions and power steering pumps, but I never recomend using these products becouse they never work well enough to make a perment repair and are a waste of money.Take your Caravan to a shop that specializes in A/C work and get an estimite, and let them know what you had done to the system.
