Did you know that 2 of the game's brightest young stars use wood sticks?

In the age of composite technology in hockey, Spezza and Stastny use old-school Sher Wood twigs. Can anyone name some of the other 20 wood stick users in the NHL?

Update:

Bob, I'm the one who asked the question!! I guess I could answer it, but where's the fun in that? lol

Update 2:

Puck - Cliffy's a beaut. He was nuts when it came to his gear. I spent 6 months trying to get a glove small/tight enough to his liking.

Erica - Most wood guys will reject 6 of 12 sticks out of each shipment. Wood is highly inconsistent in weight, flex and curvature. That's part of the reason composites gained traction initially.

I bleed blue and gold - you may want to have that condition looked at, btw. LOL. Nonetheless, correct on both counts.

Update 3:

san - Nice job, indeed. Amazing what you can find on the net, eh?

yeddie - all keepers use sone form of wood or wood/faomcore combo, so I just looked at skaters for this one.

Update 4:

By the way, Bob, right on both counts. I'm guessing you have some of Joe's laying around the basement, no?

Update 5:

When Naslund was a Mission guy, the company painted his wood sticks to look like their composite M-1. Pretty embarrassing. I think I still have one of those in the garage.

LITY - Northlands weren't all that common in my neck of the woods in nyc. When I had a little coin in my pocket, I went Canadien 6001 or Titan 2020. Otherwise, it was whatever had a sale tag.

  • Sacriligous..............on Paul's part.

I have a Victoriaville P-1000 Model hanging on my ex-wife's wall.............game used by Peter Stastny! It's crossed with an old Northland model used by Denis Savard.

Northland was my stick of choice too.

I have a Spezza twig too from his days with the Ice Dogs...almost 10 years ago now.

I use wood sticks, never been much of a sucker for Sherwood, except for a road goal stick, but i have a Yellow Koho And a titan, both wood. lol.

I think Weight adds a better shot, i have a hard time getting a shot off with a composite it just feels too weird.

Bob- LOLL its old age pal.

I knew Stastny used one, but I didn't know about Spezza.

BOB: I think you're confusing Zam and Zap! LMAO!!! Zap asked the question! Zam hasn't answered yet! Zap is the hockey equipment expert here, lol, not Zam (taking nothing away from Zam, he's a great contributor, but Zap knows his hockey equipment).

Whoa, I'm getting confused myself lol.

OMG!!!! Seriously look at all the Z's on this page, just stare at them for a while, they'll start looking like they are rotating!

Naslund for the Vancouver cunucks uses a wood stick. He says he has had no time to learn a one piece and he also mentioned he does not have much of a shot so there is not point in switching!

Source(s): I heard it in interview befor todays Detroit Red Wings game

The Sherwood was always my stick of choice for 30 odd years.

I know Adrian Aucoin is one. He was talking about after the game last Saturday. Cliff Ronning keeps trying to sell him on the composite but he claims if you don't hit the composite just so you get a crappy shot and that his old wooden sticks still fire harder shots.

I knew Demitra uses one and I got a chance to check it out during a charity auction. I've used both comp and wood and I still think the real twigs are better. Not as light, but durable and dependable.

I wish more pros would use them because I hate when scoring chances end when a player snaps his stick.

I was watching a game the other night and they mentioned someone-said he was the only player on the team to use one. Memory is fading fast these days Zam.

Might Rolston be one? Pronger maybe. Of course big Al MacInnis always stuck with wood. Tell me Zam, tell me. Or let Zapcity field the question.

Source(s): Vyborny? DiPenta. Funny I googled NHL players who use a wood stick and the 5th result was on a question from here that we had answered. Talk hockey much? Zap/ Zam/ Zarley Zalapski. I am getting delusional.

    Laraque? Wow. Never noticed.

Mike, I heard Spezza's pretty crazy about his sticks. Like he'll order them in high numbers, examine each one by hand, and send the ones he doesn't like back. And I heard of evil teammates knocking his sticks over during practice just to try getting in his head. LOL.

ADD: Ohh, I didn't know that, Zap. Wooo, I learned something today! ...I still maintain that Jason Spezza's crazy though. Haha.

  • I believe Teppo Numminen of the Buffalo Sabres also uses a wooden stick. He's also one the founders of the company "Montreal" that makes hockey sticks.

Source(s): I vaguely remember the announcers discussing this during a Sabres game last season.
