Indicator problem on a Nissan micra - please help a clueless girl?

The other day my left indicator started blinking rapidly when I used it. I therefore checked my indicator lights and the rear left one was out so I changed the bulb.

However, I am still having the rapid blinking problem. All the lights are working, the right one is fine, and when I use my hazard lights both sides flash at normal speed.

Can anyone tell me what could be wrong with my left indicators?

Is there anything that I can do to fix it? Please bear in mind that my car knowledge extends as far as knowing that a rapid blinking indictor normally means the bulb is out!!!

Thanks.

arlanyo is on the right track, the bulbs have a Resistance built into them if this is not right then yes the bulb will flash rapidly. we know it is not your flasher unit because when your hazards are on it all works correctly and your right indicator works fine (there is only one flasher unit) so I concur, remove the bulb and change for the right one then see if it works OK. this is to check it is the bulb. You know the right ones work so if you use a bulb that you know is correct and still have a fault then you know it is not the bulb but the light unit it sits in. bad wire connection, dirt etc. good luck as it seems your very hands on and willing to learn so I think you will sort it.

    hope this helps

Sounds like you might have a bad connection or a second bad bulb. It sometimes flashes when a bulb is about to go (so i was always told). Get the connection checked and the fuse just in case.

The "flasher unit" itself could be faulty - it is a small plug in thing usually found under the dash board (it makes the clicking noise when you switch the indicators on) they are only cheap to replace and is most likely the cause if all your indicator lights (including any side repeaters) are working..

If the bulbs are working it may just mean a poor connection somewhere in the circuit. Remove and refit the bulb you replaced, recheck, then do the same all round the car.

You did the right thing by changing the bulb ,as that was the problem, but have you put the correct bulb in the holder

do u have an indicator on the side of the car that is not working usually on the front wing

check ur brake lights also sometimes it does that to let u know a light is out on that side if the brake light is also out it could be doing that.

and check all of the connections to the light for the heck of it

Have you put the correct wattage bulb in. It should be 21 watts.

arlanymo... and other fella who agrees have the right idea, sounds like you have replaced the bulb with the incorrect wattage.

    Cheers
