Our internet connection keeps on disconnecting?

We're with Homecall broadband at the moment, but have lately been having trouble with internet connection disconnecting.

Today was particularly bad. Not only were we disconnected, we were unable to connect for ages.

We kept on getting the same error message that the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner.

We use Wired broadband and have to use an extension cable to reach the phone line

    Hello,

(ANS) You have two common problems by the sound of it to me,

No.1 line noise, this is a BIG problem with broadband connections (wired or wireless), line noise on a phone line fluctuates all the time but stays within acceptable limits so your connection remains stable. But if the line noise either increases or spikes (up & down) and goes out of normal limits your connection may drop completely in a random fashion, or may loose sync with the local exchange.

**You can check yourself for bad levels of noise by lifting the handset and if you hear cracking, popping or other buzzing back ground noise other than a normal dial tone then you could have a noisy line.

**The extension cable may cause extra line noise too.

**If you do have a noisy line then that can be reported directly to BT for fixing but DON'T mention broadband or the internet problem to them.

No.2 having long phone line extensions isn't recommended if you have a broadband connection, your asking for more problems. Extension cables do cause a large number of technical hassles with ADSL.

**If you have a house with steep stairs (i.e. a tall house) or a large property with big rooms and large distances between rooms, then you may find that a wireless internet router based connection may be a better option.

**Also its worth you checking with BT that your local exchange isn't under going engineering works by BT (they never tell you!).

**Also worth checking with your ISP that they haven't got server or comm's problems at the moment.

    Hope that helps?

Had the same message with sky (wireless) and it turned out to be the providers. Give them a call as they may tell you theres a problem in your area.

You need to call them and they'll sort it for you. I was with them also and it did'nt work out so i went with Talktalk, and i've had similar problems so now i'm going with Sky talk.

You should contact your internet manufacturer and see if they have any advice on sorting out the problem.

Who the hell is Homecall? It's not an ISP I've ever heard of...

Anyway, don't ask us. Why don't you ask Homecall what the problem is? Threaten them with knives or something.
