Question about being induced??
I am being induced tomorrow with my 4th child and just want to know other peoples experiences with induction as I have never been induced before. Is it more painful than natural birth? Does it take longer? My last birth was only 3 and a half hours so I am a bit nervous.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I was induced with my first. My water broke and labor didn't progress as they wanted, so they induced a few hours later. They told me it was more intense and potentially more painful, and that I'd likely want an epidural.
They gave me something in an IV (sorry, don't remember what it was called) that was short acting and helped relax me a bit. I never got the epidural and my son was born 2 1/2 hours after induction.
It wasn't a picnic, but I didn't think it was that bad. I'm due with my 2nd and don't plan to have an epidural this time either.

hi, i was induced with my second (i have 4 children) and i just found it nervewracking to be in hospital the night before thinking about it! truthfully, it was uncomfortable when they were trying to break my waters, they had the drip all hooked up and no water came out which frightened me. i suggested walking around to bring it on a bit more with drip in tow!) my first labour was 14 and half hours and with being induced my 2nd child came a bit quicker at approx 5 hours. my 3rd labour was natural and lasted about the same and my 4th came in 47 minutes, naturally. i believe in my experience that the labours become quicker with each child you have, so in saying that if you are going to be induced i think your 4th labour along with being induced will probably be quicker. i would prefer to go naturally but if you are overdue (i was 10 days over with 4th) and your doc advised induction then i suppose you have to be. my experience was initially feeling uncomfortable, but the labour is just the same as any other, we all know what that feels like! then we have our bundle of joy, pain forgotten!

I was induced two weeks ago...and it was a fabulous experience. I was nervous, but also so reassured that there were no "suprises". Mine was long ( but it was also my first child). I highly recommend it. Painful wise...I had an epidural. However, I dont know any reason it would be any more painful than "natural" labor. I have a wonderful experience, and I felt way more in control. Best of luck to you and congratulations.

Hi West Aussie Chick
congradulations for the 4th time i guess, i have only one child and my birthing was natural. I do know of someone that had induced labour, i beleive its painful but not as bad and delivery is quick.
I wish you everything of the best.
good-luck

i was induced with both of my children so i don't know if it takes longer or hurts worse. i went in at midnight with both. they started the meds. my daughter was born at 9:30 pm and my son at 1:00 pm. so i guess it was longer than 3 and a half hours but you're not in complete labor pain the whole time. you're not in pain at all until the contractions start and they keep increasing the meds. the pain shouldn't really be any worse than a normal delivery cause the only pain is the actual labor and delivery pains.

Not to scare you, but when I was induced, it took a while b/c my body didn't react very well. The doctors induced me for 12 hours a day for three days in a roll before it actually affected me enough to go into actual labor.

YES IT CAN HURT WORSE BUT THE TIME IT TAKES DEPENDS UPON YOUR BODY AND HOW IT REACTS WITH YOUR MEDICATIONS. THERES NO NEED TO BE NERVOUS JUST DO AS YOU WOULD NORMALLY DO AND ASK QUESTIONS AND IF YOU DON'T FEEL RIGHT ABOUT SOMETHING LET THEM KNOW, IF YOU CONTEST AGAINST ANYTHING THEY CAN NOT DO IT GOOD LUCK
