Isn't it impossible to support the troops if you don't support the war?

As Commander in Chief isn't Bush part of the troops? If you don't support Bush you hate the troops, right?

Lol thats a twisted wy to look at it. The president was also the only person ELECTED to be in the military so that makes it a lot different. The good old president is also IMMUNE to the UCMJ so tell me is he still really part of the military or just another elected official with a great deal of power? I would never consider the president to be part of the military he is the head of the military but not in integral part of it. Its pretty easy to support the troops but not the war. Troops are people they obligated themselfs to serve this great country what the president does with them from there is out of there hands but they entered service to defend the country. I love the troops and support them with all of my heart however i do not agree with this war and hate what bush keeps putting them through.

  • The answer to that question is purely a matter of opinion. Although no, George Bush is currently a civilian, not a serviceman. The military is ultimately commanded by civilians.

People should stop talking for the military. Who "supports the troops" and who doesn't is up to each servicemen in his or her own mind only, not some politically immature individual whose only contribution is a cheap bumper sticker, a parcel full of soap and a prayer.

NO, I don't know anyone that doesn't support the troops! Maybe you should source that!!

It's going just like Vietnam did! Anyone with half a brain can't support this war either!

Bush built up support for it by lying to the public! All to line his buddies wallets and avenge Daddy!

Because the public doesn't support the war doesn't mean that they don't care about the troops, they just don't like the way Bush ( who is a bad politician not a member of any combat unit ) is wasting the resources of our military! The troops deserve our support and admiration. Bush on the other hand is separating them from their families and getting them killed over a bunch of lies!

"If you don't support Bush you hate the troops, right?" that has to be in the top ten of the most moronic statements I've read on here!!

    Feel the Love!!!

Not exactly. I know plenty of people that don't support bush, but stand behind the troops 110%. For the simple fact that you are told what to do. If you say no to going over seas when it's your time. Well you're screwed. Technically we aren't at war. Congress is the one that declares war. Congress has not passed a formal declaration of war, or authorized any military action.

you dont really need to support Pres. Bush to support the troops, HOWEVER, you do need to support the troops and their mission.

you can say thank you to all the troops you want, but how does your thanks mean anything if you immediately contradict yourself by talking poorly about what the troops are doing?

    Edit:

In response to JS, yes.. supporting a conflict that kills troops that in turn kills them...

i understand your logic... but if you dont support the mission we are doing, then i in turn feel unsupported.

I KNOW that my friends died for a reason. I hope that you can do the same. They are my heroes and i wont have anyone down talking what they died for until its the equivalent of a vehicle accident.

Not exactly. It is one thing to disagree with a war and the president but another to go over to a state that sponsors terrorism and badmouth the US or try to cut funding for the troops, that is not supporting them.

To support the troops is easy- "Guy- I hope you make it home from this stupid war we're in. I'm sorry you're enlisted when we have this *** president in the white house- good luck, keep your head down ok? come home safe"

The President is NOT a Soldier- he is a civilian who happens to be in charge of the military.

He is not part of the troops - he is their Commander In Chief, and he is their 'civilian oversight'.

Very good system - you don't really want the military running the military (ie Burma/Myanmar).

I don't think very highly of Geroge W. Bush, but I think the world of our troops.

And if he did, perhaps they would be fairing better.

My brother is on his second deployment and I can tell you that statements like 'I support the troops but not the war,' don't make him feel supported.
