I want to share my Internet connection between my xbox and my PC but how?

The modem currently connects to the PC via USB so I want to connect the xbox directly to the network card in the back of the PC and create a "shared" connection but im not sure how to do this. Can some one provide a step by step guide to setting this up?

Update:

I have been told this is possible and have a rough idea how to achieve it but just wanted to know for sure

Update 2:

Please stop telling me I need a router, I know the best option is a router but I wanted to try without first

    HELLO,

I believe you are geting some confused results above.

I do agree that the best method is buy a router, but you do not have to.

Also you do not need a Cross over cable, a straight through cable is what I use.

This website gives an indepth walkthrough

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xb...

This is the type of connection I do all the time in this site

    http://www.jakeludington.com/xbox/20061208_xbox_ne...

    Reference:

All you need to do from your PC is go to your network connections and right click on the USB connection or what ever your machine is naming it.

    Click on properties

    then the advance tab

Then just check mark the ICS check box

Apply the settings, connect the cables and enjoy the fact that you did not have to purchase anything.

    Cheers !! -- Mike

Don't know if this would work but assuming the PC is running Windows XP.

    a) Get an Ethernet cross over cable.

    b) Connect the wired NIC from the PC to NIC port on the 360 using the cable.

    c) Ensure the wired and wireless connections have static IP address assignments - it just makes life easier.

    d) On the PC goto Control Panel, Network Connections. Highlight the wireless and wired NIC connections. With both highlighted do a right click and Add to bridge. Setup the bridge config as your network requires.

Like I say don't know if this will work in practice but give it a go.

Failing that go buy a wireless router/bridge with 4 x 10/100 connections for the same cash (or less) that you'd pay for the 360's wireless NIC.

most people with games consoles will use a router or a modem/router , the best option..

    netgear dg834 etc..

have a look at www.ebuyer.co.uk for prices, a certain well known shop sells them for a lot more in their shops (the rip off merchants).

you can connect 4 rj45 connectors

OR this is a trickier but cheaper method, you need to use a RJ45 cross over cable + maybe a proxy such as >

    http://www.analogx.com/CONTENTS/download/network/p...

but the router out of the 2 is a better option, probably a adsl modem/router in your case.. AND you get a hardware firewall built into that =)

you acquire the best suited thought. besides the undeniable fact that, your hub is doing what it meant to do - connect some contraptions, yet in basic terms a million works at a time. for this reason, got here the router (nicely, change first..). What you're able to do is to get a router related to that cord occurring your computing device, and from the router, on your computing device, and one on your xbox. for sure, thats form of redundant. So what else? a million) you have 4 ports going to 3 rooms. Take that better port and connect it on your xbox. or 2) in case you will purchase a router anyhow, purchase a instant router (genuinely, its greater convienent to purchase a instant router that could additionally take the stressful cord form, for those people who dont have instant.) That way you could replace your linksys router with the instant one and connect as much as 255 contraptions, unlike you have that many...

You need a new wirelsss router which has 4 ports at the back. the average price for them is 39.99 to 49.99 and theyre good for your xbox and loads of pcs. dont use usb to connect to the internet, use ethernet cables or wireless!

go to www.argos.co.uk and browse around for routers or try ebay!

if i was you do like i do

    and

I don't think you can do this with a usb modem. You will need a router, which uses a ethernet cabel.
