In May the Nile River is as low as it will be all year long. From June to August the river rises rapidly. In the middle of September the river is at its highest. By the time October comes, the Nile’s water level begins to decrease. In ancient Egypt this used to be a major problem, but as technology increased it became less of a threat.

The inundation of the Nile river began each year with the helical rising of the star Sothis that we know as Sirius or the dog Star. This occurs in the first few days of July.
The inundation began in the mountains of Uganda and Ethiopia and reached Egypt at this time every year.
This was noticed by the ancient Egyptians who assumed that the inundation was a gift from the gods.
However this gift, although it brought with it life in the form of water to irrigate the land it also very often brought with it death and destruction though flooding. As a way of measuring just how severe the flooding of the flat lands would be a series of Nilometers that measured the rising of the waters were constructed at strategic points along the Nile beginning at the Fist Cataract near Aswan. There is still an example to be found at Philae Temple and in Cairo although remember that Cairo was not a pharaonic city this Nilometer is from the Roman era.
The inundation also brought with it a few centimeters of rich black loam and it was this" black gold' ,so incredibly rich in nutrients that allowed the agrarian culture along the Nile to produce outstanding harvests without the use of any fertilization or the need to allow an area to remain fallow to regain its richness, as was the case in agriculture elsewhere.
Since the construction of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser the Nile river is no longer at risk of flooding and for the first time in 5000 years of agriculture in Egypt, the farmers have found a need to use fertilizers.

well the ancient egyptians used the nile river to its fullest extent. The Nile river meant life, and without it, the egyptians wouldnt survive. The nile flooded in certain seasons, so the egyptians used it to water their crops and they also held some sort of ceremony. (we learned about it in 6th grade and thats all i can remember sorry) try going to your library and getting a book about it or try searching for information online

It was once a month. It would flood a murky flow that made deposits along the shoreline.
(Truthfully, unlike some other rivers, the Nile flows from south to north.)
