I bought a whirlpool in 1996 and it's still going strong, with no problems ever.
I think it's ace!
My friend bought one the same at around the same time and also had no probs

We used to have a Whirlpool. So did my parents and my in-laws. All three machines lasted over 10 years.
Don't buy a washer/dryer. Buy a separate washing machine and a drier. There are too many things to go wrong with a combo, and on driers the heating element never lasts very long.

You cannot go wrong with a whirlpool, the main advantage is the motor which is an induction motor which means it does need motor brushes, I was in the washing machine servicing trade many years ago and the only two make I would ever go for is Whirlpool or Hoover.

We bought Whirlpool's Inglis washer & dryer when they were on sale (at Best Buy). The washer has been fine so far. The dryer had the heating element go out within the first year we had it. Ummm.... Aside from that they've been alright.
Do lots of research before you commit to one model. After my experience with the heating element going out the first year, I'd recommend buying the extended warranty if one is offered.

Keep away from Servis, Dyson and Indesit as i used to deliver and install washers and they were the worst offenders. Dont buy washer/dryers as they tend to wear out more quickly as the motor is doing twice the work. If you want value for money then go for Bosch or Zanussi.
Hoover and Hotpoint seem ok and Baukneit.

like the person said before go for the inglis...I dont know of a washing machine that is under 299. Frigidaire has one at best buy for 279..but if u go to best buy look for an "open item" check it out. whirlpool would be the best for a top loader.

I used to have a Whirlpool top loader double load capacity machine (American type) for doing the bedding and towels when I did B&B. It was superb, ultra quiet and fast. Couldn't fault it, but it was about £500. Extremely heavy - took 2 hefty blokes to deliver and position it. I got it from Comet.
