Seriously Swollen Feet?
So, I'm 34 weeks pregnant and my feet, calves and ankles have just absolutely ballooned today. I mean, my hands and feet have swollen in weeks past, but now, I look like a 300 pound person and before baby I was 100 (now 130). They're really red and squishy.
Any relief suggestions?

My sister just bought me surgical stockings...you can by them at a medical supply store...and I think maternity places.
She had horrible swelling and aching feet...and they helped her. I've been wearing them and they seem to really help.
Source(s): BTW...does your OB know. If you push your skin in and it stays...that is a true sign of Edema. If it's so, please let your doctor know immediately. :) - 5 years ago
First: Get to a doctor and do it today! The condition you describe, and the extent of the swelling are nothing short of emergent. There is a reason you are retaining fluid, especially top your lower extremities, and it could be a serious circulatory problem. In any case, the swelling itself could even cause circulatory insufficiency to your feet, and could cause or foster infection. This "swelling" could also be a sign that an infection has begun in your feet. It is imperative that you have this condition investigated by a medical professional as soon as possible, especially because rest and elevation have had little effect.

Call your ob/gyn and at least talk to the nurse. This could be a sign of pre-eclampsia and they may want to check it out.
In the meantime, try and eliminate salt from your diet if possible. Put your feet up--try to stay off them.. Even sitting with feet down is not good--get a footstool and get your ankles above your knees.
Have you been peeing normally? Watch your water intake--don't overdo it, but don't go without hydrating either.
Don't let this go w/o checking with your doctor--not trying to alarm you as this will only be serious if you leave it untreated.

Sit down, put your feet up and call the doctor. Serious swelling is sometimes a sign of high blood pressure. Dangerous for both you and baby. Relax as much as you can, keep your feet up as much as you can.

Call your doc, because sudden swelling can be a sign of hypertension. It could be just that you're retaining water. Sit down elevate your feet. That's about all you can do.

Sounds to me like pre eclampsia. Call your dr. asap. this is serious. Could lead to death if not taken care of. I had this. The only cure is delivery.
