Does Vietnam allow men that were US soldiers in Vietnam during the American War?

Let me clear this up for everyone. You want to know if it's possible for your dad- who was stationed in Vietnam during the war- to visit Vietnam and you want to go along with him.

Of course you and your dad can visit Vietnam. I know someone who was an US soldier now owns a travel agency. He goes back and forth couple times a year. He loves Vietnam. Most Vietnam vets love Vietnam and want to come back.

Don't expect to see what he saw over 30 years ago. Vietnam has moved on and you can't hardly tell one time it was a war there. That's how we are. We don't look back but moving forward.

Vietnam is now a very welcoming country. Most people were born after the end of the war and don't harbor ill feelings, if they think much at all about the war. As US citizens, you and your father do need to apply for tourist visas, so if there are any issues (which I strongly doubt), I am sure that they will let you know.

Not to sound rude, please be sure that your father is prepared to deal with his own emotions over a return to Vietnam. Most US vets do fine after these last 30 years, but some still bear emotional scars, especially if they lost close friends or comrades. I am glad that he is not going alone, so he has someone to talk things out with if needed.

Many Vietnam Vets have gone back to Vietnam. I know that Vietnam and the USA have pretty much restored relations and Vietnam is actually starting to boom as far as tourism and real estate goes. I may check it out myself in the not too distant future. I talked to someone ( American) who went there and they liked it and recommended I go. He said that they were not hostile towards Americans at all but love to remind you who won the war. If I were you I would take him but probably best not to mention he fought in the war as some scars never heal and you just never know who may take offense. But in general it is safe and clean in the major cities.

Yes, there are many things that cater to those who served there and they are made welcome. They tunnels the VC used have actually been expanded to accommodate fat people. There are war nostalgia bars that play sixties music and have camouflage netting etc. on the walls. There are shooting ranges where you can pay to fire an AK-47 or M16. The war crimes museum might not be everyone's cup of tea, but of course the Vietnamese have their own POV on the war.

your question is oddly phrased, such as I'd like to come back (seems like you are there) stationed there (sounds like you are not). if you are asking if former US soldiers who fought in vietnam are allowed to go there, I know many have, even filming documentaries about it. Check with the US Department of State to see if there is any reason that they know of, but it seems to me that he can travel there.

I think a couple of people remained after they found lovers and wives there.Not positive.
