driving in 3rd (automatic) in the city, to help fuel economy?

I was reading somewhere that new cars have something called DFCO which basically cuts off fuel when not on the gas, and it helps slow down the car too. Now this only works in 3rd, 2nd or 1st. But in the city chances are you are not going to go fast anyways so you don't need the 4th gear. And since it is also doing engine braking it will also let your brakes last longer.

So how much do you think this would help driving in 3rd?

this will not help at all, the transmission is already pretuned to work at maximum efficiency...

Let the car do it's job, just ease on the gas and the brakes, and you'll be running fine..
