What's wrong with me? I'm just not myself lately. I am fat (174 lbs. at 5'5"), lazy and tired all the time.

I take way too many long naps, don't get much done, I used to be outside all day taking care of my animals and riding my horse. I am on anti-anxiety meds. for finger-biting, and have high liver enzymes. And a small cyst on my liver. Doc said that's not the cause of the high liver enzymes. Am I on too much meds.? Am I depressed? I feel very emotional a lot, too, crying at nothing, anything sad happens on TV I cry. I want to cry more but I hold back so as not to look weak. I have nightmares often too. I eat Ice Cream to comfort myself. I am a naturally nervous person, and i find it hard to socialize with others. But I am worried about my health. Is the weight to blame? Any ideas? Any docs or nurses out there who can help?

Update:

I don't think I'm Bipolar, because I don't get "Manic" at all.

Update 2:

I do see a Therapist, but I can't get in to see her enough.

Update 3:

It's not my nails I bite, it's the skin on the first joint of each finger. I bite them severely, taking out chunks of flesh, with lots of bleeding. And my Thyroid is OK, I had it checked.

Update 4:

I wear size 16-18. I think that's fat.

Depression seems to be the correct word. When you are depressed, you pretty much don't care what you do and sleeping is the only thing you want to do.

Try eating more fruit and start out excercising for at least 30 minutes, 3 times a week. Excercising creates enzymes, which make you happy. Fruit gives you more energy. Especially apples, which gives you more energy than a cup of coffee.

Try taking up a hobby such as baking, painting or drawing, photography, or playing an instrument. Join a support group or club that deals with the same issues you are facing.

    Good luck to you!

Why are you on meds for finger biting? That seems a bit extreme for a nervous habit.

Have you had your thyroid checked. Weight gain and fatigue can cause low moods and depression. Did the weight gain come before or after. What seemed to be the starting point. Many people are naturally nervous but they aren't on meds.

Maybe you are emotional because you feel like you don't have control of your life anymore? Maybe you need to get off the meds if it's just for finger biting.

I know it seems like I'm trivializing your problems.... but my daughter would bite her nails until they bleed. I finally showed her medically what is under her nails and how incredibly nasty it was and what she was ingesting. She has stopped biting her nails because it actually starting making her physically ill when she realized she was doing it and thought about it. Think about what is under your nails. Germs, feces, old bacteria laden food, dead skin, yeast......

You aren't that much over weight. I'm 5'3" and 165 pounds. I wear a 14. I'm overweight but I"m not obese. A size 12 to 14 is the average in this country. You are not alone. So quit thinking that your fat. You don't have that far to go to look and feel better.

You have to be aggressive about your life and take charge. Stop biting your nails. Start exercising a few minutes each day.....keep a journal with what you do each day and increase the amount and intensity a little each week. Take is slow....set goals...

Start researching the food pyramid.. Make sure you eat the right number of foods for each catagory. Start checking into nutrition web sites.

Join a fitness group so that you have support to motivate you. Get a circle of relatives together and create a fitness club. You share fitness and diet information. You encourage eachother to meet for exercise. You keep a chart of everyone's progress. Each person puts in a dollar amount into a pot and then people that make progress toward a goal join the other winners in an activity paid for by the money collected for the pot each month. Come up with rules....like you have to workout three days a week or a point is deducted from you total. You have to keep a diet journal of everything you eat and the number of calories eaten.......get together and create a journal with the rules, a chart to track calories and servings of each food group eaten...print it up and have it bound for each member of the group.

It's always helpful if you have support to motivate. You have to also be aggressive and pro-active about your own body and future. You have to get into a doctor and find out if something like your thyroid is off.

Start spending your time on the computer researching recipes, exercise tips, nutrition information, health information and so on.

    Good luck!

It sounds like depression, but depression can be caused by things not going right in your body as well as things not going right in your mind.

One thing that you should do is to get your thyroid checked out. If it isn't producing the proper amounts of hormone, you get heavy without even trying, are tired all the time, cold, depressed, and your hair and skin dry out and itch. It is diagnosed with an inexpensive blood test, and if you are hypothyroid, the replacement hormone is very cheap, and you just take it every morning when you get up.

You might also want to be checked for Lyme disease antibodies, if you spent a lot of time outside and Lyme exists in your area.

Definitely it sounds like you are unhappy and want to change, if you knew where to go with it. I wish you all the best.

Well I have found that sometimes a long walk really helps. Just keep looking ahead and around you , never look down, enjoy everything you see for what it is.
