How many "believers" actually count their change?

Let's say you buy a package of gum. You give the vendor $10. The vendor gives you some change. Do you check to see that you have been given the correct change and not been ripped off? Do you look for physical proof that you are being given what you are anticipating to be true? Or do you have faith that you have been given what you believe to be true?

Belief and faith will only take you so far, and almost always lead you astray and you'll be ripped off.

Then why, for the sake of common sense, do you not seek for real proof, real truth, behind some antiquated god-claim much higher in apparent value than a paltry few dollars? How can you put so much trust in an ancient belief system when you must, on a daily basis, actually see the "little stuff" with your own eyes before you will accept it? Doesn't this contradiction seem wrong to anybody else?

And don't use the lame "the bible tells me so" answer. That falls in the same category.

One does not count the change to prove anything. One could say if you are a good Christian you count the change to make sure that which you have been blessed with is in keeping with the blessing and the gratitude of that which one has been so loving bestowed. One does not become ungrateful thus taking their blessing-in this case money for granted. Nor does one take their blessing, money, as a right or an entitlement bestowed upon them simply because they are Gods child. One is grateful and diligent is the usage of any blessings they have. To do other wise would be as I have stated an ungrateful, demanding and selfish child.

God gives us means to live by and expects us to us those means accordingly. The proof is not in the counting, the proof is in the "keeping of the truth and honesty of all we come into contact with". By counting the money we are due back we not only acknowledge our understanding where the money came from we also give proof that honesty is something everyone is responsible for. ..!

Count your blessing child, for in there lies your answer.

Well, if you check names, places, dates, and events metioned in the bible you will find it authentic. Also, there are recently many archeological events, and places that are proving it to be true. The ancient scrolls that have been found also back up much of the bible.

One other fact to be considered is that the books of the bible were written many hundreds of years apart. Many of the authors did not know each other. If you think about it communications in those days were slow and handwritten so the chance of mistakes is great, however, when reading the various books you will find they correlate. Some have more facts about a happening than others but the event is the same. Perhaps if you really studied the bible you would understand it better. There are many groups that do this and analyze it verse by verse, chapter by chapter. It is a facinating look into life and what the people of those days learned is still applicable to us today. Human nature changes little, but what you can do to make your life better does not. The One who came to us with these lessons for a better life gave His for us.

I think that things that need the actual physical proof - and can have that - is a little different from believing in a higher power (God or whatever you want to call it). As far as the change and everything goes, you CAN prove it. You can look down and count to see if it's correct. As far as God goes, you can't prove it. It can't BE proven. So you have to believe.

I understand what you're saying, though. I personally choose to believe in God and Heaven and all that WITHOUT the proof. But that's a personal decision. (I also don't count my change lol, I should but I don't, unless it's a high amount).

You're definitely right about "the bible tells me so". The Bible was NOT written by God, it was written by men.

I don't agree with most Bible-thumpers. So I usually stay away from this section. But your question intrigued me :)

In order to be "ripped off" you must make an investment in something. Is this like a backhanded version of Pascal's Wager? Because it sounds like one makes an investment and then feels "ripped off" when it doesn't pay the way one expects. If you're looking for a sure thing, don't choose religion or any sort of spirituality, for that matter. Maybe this is like "Pascal's Hustler," a player who will let you win a few small rounds and then cheat you when it comes time to distribute the big prize. It all still sounds like a "me first" philosophy, which has the ring of dishonesty to it and strikes me as the wrong way to seek out enlightenment, because it narrows the personal focus to "what can I get out of it?"

I always count my change especially at the local arab owned convient stores, they have a tendency to be shady, for example, I buy 2 stamps from the one, and stamps cost 41 cents, but I get charged a dollar for 2 stamps??? The Bible tells me so, lmfao what a joke, religion should be abolished, since the only proof that is offered up to the believers is the "book". Honestly we should all make our own religions and see how many dumbazz people will follow, just to get their money. Besides who would believe their own lying eyes, when they can blindly follow what they are told?

Perhaps most "believers" as you called them, don't really care whether or not someone rips them off, for some small change in the grand scheme of things. If they needed the few cents that bad, they can have them. Those pennies might buy someone else a coffee to keep them warm, whereas I'd just have thrown them away...

To be honest, I could care less about anything less than a quarter...

So long as everyone else keeps their opinions on whether I "should or shouldn't be counting my change" to themselves...

I save my change in a glass jar, then count it when the jar gets full & take it to the bank. For some reason it makes me feel good; like I have more money than I really do or I accomplished something by collecting all this spare change. Weird...

I count my change for in order to make sure I get the right amount back. I do this in order to make sure I don't get too much or little back. If I get too much back I give them their money back. Even if it is only a penny.

As much as you and other non-believers refuse to accept it. We have all the evidence we need. I have felt God's presence. I have seen Him work in my life. It starts with faith but now it is beyond faith and into knowing.

I have a very high amount of belief in Karma... sometimes I check and sometimes I don't. If I've been shorted, I prefer to believe that I was able to help someone else out...Keeps me from resenting the one who shorted me because more often than not, it was probably an honest mistake...

Don't make rash generalizations about all "believers". Just because a lot of people believe just because that's what their parents told them to do or whatever, doesn't mean that's why everyone believes what they believe. I have done research into the issues. I have looked at things. I'm not ignorant. I have looked for proof. And I found out.
