I had my gall bladder removed when I was 17. Granted, I was much younger than your mother, but I will tell you what it was like for me. It was outpatient, but I wound up staying overnight because I have other health issues they wanted to watch. Anyway, the pain wasn't horrible. I really only took meds for about a week....if that. Once I got over the initial pain, it was almost like it never happened. The stiches were absorbable so I didn't have to worry about that. The only downside was I still had to watch my deit for a few months..until my liver could regulate the bile production/secretion. I think your mother is going to be fine. It's a pretty simple procedure. The no food/water thing is standard for those about to undergo surgery. The high white count is probably just from infection, but I am sure they are watching it. And the IV is normal for being in the hospital. I do not think you have to worry much!

I had my gall bladder removed about ten years ago. It was done with a traditional incision, as I had an exploratory done at the same time. I had sludge in my gall bladder and a small stone worked its way into the pancreas and I developed pancreatitis, a bad condition to have.

I had a fairly large incision, but the removal of the gall bladder was inconsequential. I had to modify my eating somewhat after the procedure. There were things I enjoyed eating that were too hard to digest after the surgery. Coffee was one thing that I found I couldn't tolerate any more. Things that were fatty or greasy also gave me problems. The problems were diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion.

Your mom will find out what she can tolerate after her surgery. Some people don't have any problems at all. Her recovery from the surgery should be easy enough if she doesn't try to overdo it. She should take cues from her body. When she is tired, she needs to rest. If she has a large incision, it may take her quite a while before the area is no longer sore. She should take her pain medicine as prescribed, and stay ahead of the pain.

She will be fine. You need to help her when she comes home to recover. Good luck.

No need to worry, the gall bladder is a very easy process, and like 2 hours in recovery, no worry. Unless its a disease that spreads through the body, there is nothing wrong. My mom was going to, but didn't and she is perfectly fine!

I had mine removed due to gallstones in a bile duct, so they had to do the invasive surgery as opposed to laparoscopy.

I had given birth three months earlier to my youngest child (I was 29). The hospital stay was one week. I had two incisions and came home with two drains. Painful, yes, but I survived. I haven't had to cut back on spicy foods and can eat and drink without worry. Your mom will be fine. Most likely they will do a laparoscopy and that will be quick and relatively painless. Best wishes and don't worry, hon.

Gall bladder surgery is EASY! They did mine laproscopically, thru a few small holes. The only problem I had was afterward I was sore from the gas that they expanded my abdomen with. I hope your mom's recovery is quick and easy like mine.
