G.A.D. Coping Mechanisms?

Just wondering...

I have G.A.D. (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and I am wondering how many people out there suffer the same things I do? Racing heartbeats ( to the point where I may need a pace maker as I get older, all from anxiety), severe stomach aches, crazy rashes, panic attacks, unwanted thoughts, hard time swallowing...all the usual G.A.D. and O.C.D. stuff.

How do you cope? Even after dealing with it for as long as I have, (about 8 years) I am still always open to opinions and understanding. You never know what can turn your life around---you never know what can make difference. So how do you deal? How do you deal with everyday life? With your kids? Your husband? Your family? Anything is appreciated.

Thanks :)

I suffer from severe anxiety disorder. I've had it for about 15 years now. I also suffer from post truamatic stress disorder, which easily exhasurbates the anxiety to a level of complete break down and loss of control. The feeling of death , though, is the worst part of it. When the breathing becomes so quick that I feel like my heart is going to explode, I lose it because even though I will eventually come out of it, I beleive I'm going to die. It is absolutely the worst feeling one can go through and I truly wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Never do I feel so scared and alone in my seemingly absolute death.

After years and years of learning srategies and ways to help yourself out of it, there has only been ONE solution for me! It is so simple and works so well, you'll trip out!

    - Next time you feel it comming on, or are even in the thick of it, have someone, or you yourself grab onto and squeeze the hell out of a few ice cubes. You must be sitting on the ground, prefferably with your back against a wall. Feel your sit spots on that ground (your butt bones), and don't let go of that raw, burning ice. It snaps you back into the present, and can make you calm down within minutes-sometimes seconds!

The most amazing anxiety specialist I've ever been blessed to know taught me that trick, and I will thank her for ever!

P.S. Always carry at least one valium, or klonopin, or xanax with you at all times in case the ice option isn't available. Good luck :)
