Is this racism?

The 3 boys had no business breaking into the house and beating up the child who is now an invalid. What would you do if they broke into your house and started beating up your family members?
Ree, the reason I asked this question is because I am tired of hearing this cry of racism. The three boys were wrong in everything they did and yet the mother of the boy and the Reverend are crying racism. Pretty soon, Al Sharpton (sic) and Jesse Jackson (sic) will lead a protest march. The man was only defending himself and his family. The criminal's families should learn to take responsibility instead of blaming the society.

I would have shot the third kid too, then sued his mom in civil court.
Sorry, no sympathy for home invasion robbers who beat people with baseball bats.
His mom and the reverend who are defending the git are way out of line. They need to face reality, and distance themselves from this felon with these words: "He's a criminal; if he hadn't committed crimes, he wouldn't be in trouble now, so he can go to prison where he belongs."
San Francisco schoolteacher Judy Hughes, and Rev. Amos Brown, if you're reading this, get a clue. People don't like criminals. It's not a racial thing.

Many states have such laws. If somebody dies during the comission of a felony, that is considered a murder, called a felony murder, whether it was intended or not.
I personally don't like such laws. Intent is a very important part of the murder charge, and it should be that way. If you expand the definition of murder, the public likes it because they think it will reduce crime, but that is an illusion. What it does is it makes criminals more vicious, because if somebody dies during a robbery, and you know you will be charged with murder, you might as well kill all the witnesses.
In this case, I am not sure if the murder charge makes that much of a difference. He is already charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. That carries a maximum life sentence already. So this additional charge is unnecessary, and sounds inappropriate.

I'd shoot them: black, white, or purple. I don't think the homeowner shooting them had anything to do with racism. The charges the survivor is facing might be but I doubt it. If you're involved in a robbery and someone dies, in most states you can be charged, even if you didn't pull the trigger. His partners in crime died - he was part of it, charge him to the max.
