What is the best political book you have read lately? What makes it your favorite?
I am always looking for great books to read, and I especially love political books. I am open to all respectful answers, and I read books written by people of all political philospophies. Thanks for your suggestions!
Thanks, Cookie! I love political biographies and autobiographies. My favorites are of the founding fathers - Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, as well we those surrounding WWII such as FDR, Churchill and Stalin.

Fred Barnes came to speak at our church and someone asked this very question. He recommends reading biographies about US Presidents. He says that is a great way to really learn US history. My husband recently read a book on Harry S. Truman and we both saw that documentary aired about him recently. His life covered the Great Depression, WWII and the Korean war. You really do learn a lot of history and politics that way.
He also suggested Abe Lincoln as a good place to start.

The War on our Civil Liberties: Because it is not one point of view but several based on what people have gone through. If you want to know how the Patriot Act effects peoples lives, read it.
How Republicans are like dogs. Funny as heck.
The Price of Loyalty: Bascially said the samething as was thinking while watching 9/11, how is Bush going to blame Iraq.
Finally, and I don't know if this is a political book but The Peoples History of the United States. US history by those that suffered through it.

Also a good read but lengthy and the print is small, covers from Columbus' voyage to the War on Terror.

There are so many good ones. Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine is really good. She is so smart-she was on Democracy now with Alan Greenspan and just blew him away.

Also "Broken Government" by John Dean, yes, the famous John Dean from the Nixon administration. It's interesting to read an angry conservative(who is an attorney-he has articles on Findlaw.com) reacting to todays's neocon republicans. The right wing says he's liberal but that's really not true.

FDR's Folly, authored by Jim Powell a world reknowned historian and lecturer. This book exposes FDR and shows how flawed his philosophies on economic policies actually were.
He warns us that now more than ever we need to learn, uncover and understand the truth of our history, lest we be doomed to repeat it.

I'm not sure if it's the type of book you're looking for, but I was recently reading "Wild Swans" by Jung Chan. It's autobiographical, and has a lot of Chinese history/politics in it. It's one of my favourite books.

Fourth Reich of the Rich is one of my favorite political books because it exposes the criminal element in government. You must know your enemy.
