How do I copy out files to external HD without a USB port?

I have an old desktop Comp that uses a Pentium Celeron processor and does not have USB. The mouse and stuff are also non-USB. I was about to trade it in, but a children's home requested to have and I will be donating it to them

1. Is there a way to copy out the files I need from my old comp to an external HD when it doesn't have a USB port? My external drive uses USB

2. Is it better for me to format the drive and install everything new after I back up my files? ( I would like to give the home a good running comp and not a fuzzy-buzzy one )

Thanks Everyone for your help

p/s: My knowledge in computers are at best retarded... so I hope you can reply me as if I was 6 years old. :) ( ah youth...wishful thinking hehe )

Unless that old computer has a CD Burner, as far as your files go, your out of luck getting them to that HD or even a disc.

To answer your first question, If that External Hard Drive requires a USB, and the computer has no USB Port, there is no way around it.

BUT there is one solution I can think of. Hopefully the old computer has an internet connection and you can access an email account that you have and email the majority of your files to yourself.

Theres so much more information that would be helpful, like what kind of files you are trying to get and how big they are. But this will do i suppose.

I hope this helped you a little bit :-p.

if you have any questions feel free to email me, id be glad to further help you with your problem :-).

maximum externals are formatted fat 32 and are plug n play. you may "convert" (DOS command) to NTFS. i take advantage of mine in computer and Mac machines no problems, My externs are fat 32 and my inner is NTFS, attempt changing USB cable? I easily have 3 backups going for TAX applications. FAT32 for an inner force could be a protection concern?

i would buy a usb card for like 10 bucks and install it in the computer...

(i'm only guessing that your computer has an open slot for a usb card)

remove the hard drive from the computer, then hook it up to another computer from which you can copy the files to wherever you want.
