You don't keep the goldfish from eating algae wafers. Goldfish are scavenger omnivores and will eat any and everything. You also shouldn't keep feeder type goldfish as "pets". These goldfish are the single tail variety of goldfish, and need to be in a minimum 75 gallon (long) tank. Feeder goldfish can get to be nearly 2 feet long and are actually best suited for ponds.
It's not a good idea to keep "sucker" fish with goldfish. Many are tropical fish and require warmer temps than coldwater goldfish.
You really should avoid using feeder fish as live food. Most are raised in poor conditions and are sold with internal parasites, bacterial infections and/or other harmful diseases that will be passed on the fish being fed.
EDIT: Anyone thinking you can feed suckers at night in the dark to keep goldfish from eating the food has absolutely no knowledge of goldfish and should not be answering this question. Goldfish are among the most voracious and successful bottom feeding fish. Lights on or off, day or night, you canNOT hide food from goldfish.

Lol I like your PS.
PS: They're greedy too
But anyways, Goldfish will eat anything. I hope you have enough algae growing in your tank and the sucker fish is not a common pleco because when algae food runs out, they go for the slime coat on goldfishes. Trust me, two of my goldfishes died 5 years ago when I didn't know my pleco was starving. Common pleco can grow up to at least 12" so make sure that your sucker fish can't grow that big or else that need more food. Not all pleco and other sucker fish grow that big, some grows only up to 4".

you have the respond approximately 5 situations. The sucker sucks the goldfish slime which in turn reasons the goldfish to weaken and then fall ill and then die. it is not an easy subject to guard fish. you will possibly desire to learn what all is in contact in taking good care of tropical fish. in case you how you are able to end it, that's a great interest. yet once you basically attempt and do it like I did with out reading the project, the fish die and the bowl finally leads to storage. good good fortune.

I put the floating food in first, on one side of the tank. While they are occupied with that,,I try to slip in the sinking food on the other side. Aim so it will go behind a plant or decoration.Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
