Are autograph authenticators the real deal?

After checking several well known autograph authentication sites online, I've determined that they can't PROVE authentication any more than I can. So why is it they can pull so much weight and make everyone think they can positively verify an autograph? Just visit ANY of the sites and you'll see the word "opinion" thrown around a lot. You're not buying their service to verify anything. All you're doing is buying their OPINION. After all, were they there when the item was signed?

You're absolutely correct. A friend of mine has been in the sports memorabilia business for over 30 years. When he was a kid Lou Brock signed a program for him at Wrigley Field. Years later, when he went for authentication he was told that the signature was a forgery.......after he told them he personally obtained the autograph from Brock they said, "Well, in our OPINION it is not authentic."

I think it's best to try to personally collect autographs for fun.

In some cases it's very difficult to prove that an autograph is authentic.

Most collectors want proof of authenticity these days (myself included).

Allot, I do not know about all MLB sanctioned autograph sessions, have a rep that will serialize and give a MLB authenticity holgram sticker for your autograph.

Counterfiet autographs are a problem, a concern to collectors, and can be nearly impossible to pick out. I look for the MLB proof, or other respected agency (BGS, PSA) on anything in this era now.

There are only a few that I trust.....one is Stiener sports and the Other is Iron Clad....The Latter of the two is the ONLY company that several players will sign products with... Cal Ripkin Jr. is the most Noteable...

Its ususally 10 outa 100% that thats true.

i doubt that when someone brags that they got a real autograph from someone famous that its not even true.

    Trust me.
