  • Can I be forced to give up my photo copyrights to be a member of a group?

My daughter does Competitive All-Star cheerleading. And during the course of the season I can take several thousand of photos of all teams at her gym.

This coming season, they have added a clause to their Waivers-Liabilities portion that states,

"Photos & Videos: In the event any picture or videos are taken in the participation of any activity relating to All Star, I give the operator(s) and staff of All Star the right and permission to use any such pictures or video in any form of advertisement and/or for promotional purposes"

As far as I understand, I own those copyrights and they are considered property. Can they rightfully and legally demand I surrender my property to them or they get to use my property for their convenience as part of membership?

  • Excel limited in a Monte Carlo?

I have developed a Monte Carlo simulation for Hockey games. It uses real world data inputs for the runs. The game is broken in to 3600 intervals (1 second time chunks) plus Over Time if needed. Each game has >100,000 cells with values and uses multiple worksheets.

Does excel or its RNG have a limit of what it can do?

All sim outputs are based off of probability using a known value and RNG. If the RNG exceeds the first value it moves onto the next one and so on until it either the RNG does not exceed the value or a Goal For is registered, essentially it is a building AND gate.

The problem I am running into is after 4 gates or more (Does a Corsi Event occur, does a Fenwick, does a Shot on Goal, does a Goal occur) the expected values over a large number of runs is not what is seen.

For example. After the first set of filters, it comes to one that can vary (based on its own OR gate and RNG functions) from one of 4 possibilities. These values can be from a 4.0% occurrence to 35.0% (this is Shooting percentage based on shot type). The overall Shooting percentage based on all shot types should be around 9.6% when all these 4 types are combined. I do get around 9.6% total SOG, but the variance between the shot types is also around 9.6% for all shot types, even if the probability is set to 4% or 30%, the end result is around the whole, which it should not be.

  • How to make excel macro self-repeat for X-Length run?

I would like to know how to make my Excel Macro repeat itself for a specific amount of times, usually 1000 or 1248 times.

It is copying final numbers from one worksheet (running a Monte Carlo Simulation) and pasting them into a second (composite) worksheet. One Macro insert a new row in the composite worksheet, pastes the data and copies formulas up from the row below it. A Second Macro does the same as the first, except it also changes 1 or 2 of the variables entered into the simulation worksheet, based off of a pre-made list (copies the new variables into the proper positions) and then runs just the same as the first.

The simulation worksheet has fixed random number cells, and receives variable numbers from a third or fourth worksheet to set the parameters of the simulation. It also incorporates native formula cells that have no direct influence on other cells only to the simulation results, or initial parsing of the data.

The composite worksheet after data is pasted sums, averages and normalizes the data depending on its nature using formulas native to that worksheet only.

  • Unknown intense pain in Calf?

On occasion I get an extremely intense and excruciating pain in my right calf. It feels like a fork has been stuck into it a rotated, like my calf muscle is trying to turn itself inside out. The pain usually last 2-5 minutes, but my calf will remain sore for 1-2 days afterward. This is not a frequent occurrence, usually months or even over a year or more can pass between this happening, but it almost always happens in the middle of the night when I am in bed and asleep. I usually but not always wake up just prior to the pain (I can feel the muscle is tensed up or tight).

I do not know what is causing this, I am a mid-30's male in good physical condition. It occurs regardless of physical activity in the days or days prior, it only occurs in the right calf, and is infrequent. However the pain is so intense I usually wake up those around me while coping with it. Pulling my toes toward my knee tends to help it pass faster, but intensifies the pain. I have had heat/stress/work cramps, this feels nothing like any of those.

Does anybody have any idea what this is or may be causing it?

  • Recalling from Juniors to NHL?

Does anybody have a reference dealing with recalling a player playing in the Juniors (as defined by the NHL as OHL, QMJHL, WHL, CHL) after the season has started or returned by the drafting NHL club?

The CBA briefly discusses this but refers to a May 2, 1995 "agreement" between the CHL and NHL, that now applies to all Junior Leagues per the CBA. Does anybody know of a good or certified reference that lays out the provisions on when a Junior Player may return to his NHL team and what must occur for this to happen.

  • How to remove an asterisk from cells in excel?

I have an spread sheet that auto-updates numerous parts from websites. Parts of these are ext cells (NHL Team names) that are used in a filtering process, but the filter hinges on the text of these cells. When a team becomes playoff eligible an asterisk is placed after the team name (i,e. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS becomes CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS*). Since these cells auto-update and it is used in sports stats filtering, where these teams will be placed in cells changes daily. I do have filters made to select the teams I am looking for, but this asterisk changes the initial search.

The way the spreadsheet works prevents really using an OR function (though possible) since it would require ALL 30 teams to be dedicated to the filter, and this would be cumbersome. Does anybody know of a way to either strip the asterisk or at the very least strip the asterisk and the filtered text placed in a new cell?

  • Stop auto Date format in excel?

I am importing Hockey Stats into excel automatically from a website (http://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_2011_s...

Most stats are fine since they are just names and umbers, however when it is a record, excel always turns them into dates (if it can) Example, 12-5-8 becomes 12/5/2008. If have pre-formatted cells to text, general, etc... but no joy, still dates.

I have copied directly from the site into pre-formatted text cells, but wella Dates still arrive. I have adjusted download/connection options as much as I can but to no joy. Manually typing 30 teams worth of broken down records is out of the question.

Does anybody know how to stop excel from automatically turning these W-L-OTL/SOL numbers into a date when automatically updating from a website?

    Using Microsoft Office 2010.

  • Is the Government, the People?

I hear at times when talking about the Government and the People, some will say something along the line "that is a misnomer, the Government is the People" when talking about powers/roles of each. Is this true, or is there a distinct difference between Government and the People?

  • Conservatives and Tea Party members?

Conservatives and Tea Party members both tend to be strong defenders of the Second Amendment, yet many (not all) support the Patriot Act which allows for warrantless searches of US Citizens, and also places restrictions or causes speech to be a means of scrutiny. Why not defend the 1st and 4th Amendments so strongly as well and learn the History of WHY each was insisted upon (such as the Writ of Assistance), when they are under just as much attack as the 2nd Amendment?

  • Does this make you think differently of the Bill of Rights?

Perhaps a little bit of role playing, but does doing the following change the way you view the Bill of Rights?

Imagine two groups in front of you, One group is the People, the other group is Government.

Now read the Bill of Rights out loud (including this portion of the Preamble), as if you are talking to a subordinate, strongly, firmly, with resolve, and answer the questions that follow. (If you want, read only the first 3 or 4, the same idea follows for the remainder)
