Christianity/Spirituality & Christmas?
Being a Christian and Christmas coming brings to us many questions.
My family loves and always looks forward to Christmas. We love the festivities, the music, the food, the trees, glamour, lights, giving gifts, receiving them is nice too, but we really enjoy the giving so much more.
Our favorite Christmas activity is packing and delivering food baskets and toys to the families going through tough times during the holidays. Our second favorite thing is creating gifts and tasty goodies to give to those we care about. There is nothing greater than a homemade gift from your heart.
We don't really get into the commercialism, Santa clause ect. How ever we do enjoy the traditional movies.
Our question is, how to we keep the focus where it should be and not on these made up stories. Also, is it wrong to enjoy all these things as a Christian?
How do we keep the fun in Christmas and leave out the things that do not honor God?
Is it wrong to enjoy these things about Christmas?
Our kids are grown and it is just the two of us. We both are like little kids when it comes to the excitement and enjoyment of Christmas. We both agree Christmas comes and goes way too fast and takes too long to come again.
We both work in job fields that keep us very busy at Christmas time and when things slow down Christmas is over and we didn’t get a chance to really enjoy it. This year we are trying to take the time to really enjoy it together, look at all the decorated homes, supply some kids with puppets we made together, and enjoy what family we can enjoy being with.
My family is doing their best to make this holiday miserable for me. Setting rules and defining how I must be when I am with them. Rule #1, absolutely no gift giving of any kind is accepted, even the gifts from our kitchen and not even to the little kids, even if they didn’t cost us anything but our time. We don’t have any money to buy gifts; the economy is really bad here.
A big part of Christmas to us is getting together with family and giving them a little token, expression of our love for them.
We are trying to figure out how we can honor God and celebrate Christmas too.
Homeland Security... We do give and help others all year long. I never mentioned it but we do it.
GH... If we are trying to make God except what we like to do, I would not be asking any questions, there would be no need to ask questions if our minds were already made up.
Happy KK... Where do you get materialistic out of a plate of homemade cookies and puppets made from scraps around the house? And my family is that way all year round, worse at Christmas, they feel you should never give them anything, it is not considered an expression of our love as we feel, it is considered trying to buy their love. I would rather just stay away from them than to become like that.
Their rules back you in a corner and try to force you into never expressing you care in any form, including hugs. I can not believe that is how we are to treat others, and even more so family. If that was the case,.. We would be all living in a cold, unloving world. A world that is self centered and never did any acts of kindness.

To all the Nay Sayers out there, I send a hearty BAH, HUMBUG to you all. Christmas is a day picked by man to honor the fact that a savior was born. The day is irrelevant, thr fact is, it was done, and continues to be done. As for gifts at Christmas, I agree that the commercialism has gotten well out of hand, but to give someone a gift out of love and kindness is just the thing that Christ did when he walked on earth. Unless, of course, you don't consider giving someone their sight, or healing their bodies, or even bringing someone back from the dead a gift. I give gifts for many reasons, Christmas being one of them. I gave my wife a set of diamonds earrings 2 weeks ago. WHY? Just because I love her! The day I give these gifts doesn't change the reason they are given. Christmas was intended to be a festive time of worship in which to "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord", and what is more joyful than the noise of children and adults laughing from happiness. I, personally have read my bible cover to cover 5 times so far, and each time I find new revalations in the word of God, but to date, I have yet to find anywhere that it is paganism tp worship Christ in any form, including celebrating the fact he was born to save us all from our own sinful ways. If you enjoy giving, then by all means give. If you have ungrateful people who refuse the gifts on Christmas, the give them for something else. At least the kids will know you love them even if the parents are being dumb and self-centered.
edit: BTW, what I got for the earrings was just as good. I got a hug thay nearly cracked a rib, and a very wet shoulder. Then I got another wet shoulder for the poem I presented to her that I wrote for the occassion of being in love with her.
Again, to those who want to find fault in love and gifts from the heart....Bah, Humbug!

You say you do not get into the materialism of christmas and yet you are upset because your family does want gifts???
It is fine to enjoy christmas or any thing else here on earth. If your heart is full of love that is what matters. At the end of this life you alone will go before god to be judged. Judgement day is a weighing of the heart, if the heart is full of love it will be lighter than a feather, when it is lighter than a feather back to fathers creation you go, if not lighter than a feather back here for another try.

Sounds well to me. Now in my maturity and earlier than my marriage get a divorce, I could have a good time at the twenty fifth that is fashioned in England. However, my grandmother was once Austrian and it's/was once Austrian culture to supply Christmas items on Christmas Eve. If reminiscence serves that was once the day "Kristkindle" could come and that was once the large day while I was once developing up. In a small however accidental revert to historical household culture, transportation problems will hinder me from seeing my daughter on Christmas Day, nevertheless, she is coming over at the twenty third and will likely be recieving her offers from my aspect of the household on Christmas Eve.

You can never mixed up paganism and christianity all in one, and assume it for God. Paganism has always been an abomination before God.
You are aware that Christmas is of pagan origin. However, since anything that is of pagan is abomination to God, you cannot celebrate it to refer to God. Truth is - you are trying to MAKE God accept what you're doing. (And that's is very dangerous, dear).
BONUS: Christmas was fabricated by the catholic church and therefore, it is a feast meant only for Catholics. You said you're a "christian" so you should be expected not to partake in all these pagan activities? Well, unless you're one of them?
God bless...

Why not do these things year round?
FACTS:
1- 25 Dec is not Jesus' birthday
2- Jesus, the disciples nor the earliest church for over three hundred years NEVER celebrated Jesus' birth
3- Jesus COMMANDS at least four times in Scripture to remember Him in obseervance of the Last Supper/Communion - NOT on His birthday (which no one even knows)

Why not keep Elohim's Holy Days of Leviticus 23 instead?
I used to love Christmas as a Christian until my wife and I started to read the Bible, the entire Bible. Just some things to consider.
For all the Commandments YHVH gave to His chosen people and those (the stranger or gentile) who chose to join them, Christianity continues in idol worship instead.
The First Commandment states that YHVH is the Elohim of the children of Israel brought out of the land of Egypt. Christianity as a whole says God is no longer the Elohim of Israel but of the Christians.
The Second Commandment states that YHVH is a jealous God and in Exodus verse 20:6 states:
but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Christianity says the (Torah) commandments no longer apply to His people.
The Third Commandment warns not to take Elohim's Name in vain. Christianity continues to call upon Him as "lord" which refers to the pagan god Baal.
Ba'al (baʕal;Arabic,بعل; Hebrew: בעל) (ordinarily spelled Baal in English) is a Northwest Semitic title and honorific meaning "master" or "lord" that is used for various gods who were patrons of cities in the Levant, cognate to Assyrian Bēlu. A Baalist means a worshipper of Baal-
Hosea 2:16 "And it will come about in that day," declares YHVH, "That you will call Me Ishi And will no longer call Me Baali.
Hosea 2:17 "For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, So that they will be mentioned by their names no more.
Christianity chooses to use the Greek name "Jesus" instead of the Hebrew name of the Hebrew Messiah, Yeshua, meaning salvation.
Strong's - 3444. yeshuw'ah, yesh-oo'-aw; fem. pass. part. of H3467; something saved, i.e. (abstr.) deliverance; hence aid, victory, prosperity:--deliverance, health, help (-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare
The Fourth Commandment is to keep the seventh day Sabbath Holy (set apart). Christianity teaches it is not necessary but to worship on the day of the Sun god.
The Fifth Commandment is to honor your father and mother. Abraham and Sarah are the father and mother of the covenant people of YHVH. Christianity rarely acknowledges this.
As for the Appointed times or Holy Days of YHVH in Leviticus 23, modern Christianity will not have anything to do with them.
Christianity chooses Easter, goddess of fertility, instead of The Passover and to eat the Easter ham which is an abomination to YHVH.
As for Christmas (pagan god Tammuz worship), the observance is found nowhere in Elohim's commandments, from the apostles, disciples or to even remember The Messiah in His birth. We are to proclaim His death til He comes.
1 Cor 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1 Cor 11:25 In the same way He took the cup also, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1 Cor 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim The Messiah's death until He comes
There is absolutely no greater joy than to worship The Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in Spirit and in Truth.
