Two All Star Games per year 1959-62???

Who knows why they played the Midsummer Classic two times each summer in 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962. Here's a hint:: The answer is not in Baseball Almanac or Wikipedia.

It was an effort to generate more revenue for the players' pension fund, and it did do that, but MLB and the players both soon considered it cheapening the sporting intents the All-Star Game and ended the extra game after four seasons.

Yes, the first answer is correct. They needed additional money in the MLB players' pension funds, so during those four seasons, two games were played each year instead of one.
