career crisis?

i'm 24 this year, working as a cook in a reputable hotel in singapore. i intend to leave this place at the end of the year mainly due to the fact i don't learn anything new here.

i'm lost. i don't know if i should continue learning to cook and hopefully make it as a well known chef when i'm in my 30s. or take up another diploma.

i currently have 2 diplomas which are closely related. one of which is tourism and hotel management. and the other leisure and resort management.

do you think i should continue workin as a cook or do something related to my current diplomas or pick up another diploma?

help please.

I think you answered your own question. You said that you aren't learning anything new. Do you feel satisfied by what you do? If not, then maybe being a chef isn't for you. Chefs have to love what they do. They don't always get the big paycheck and it is one hell of a stressful job. You have a lot going for you. You have specific degrees in hotel and tourism. This is huge. You can take what you've done in the real world and bounce into a hotel management position or into the tourism industry. You can definately use what you've learned to get yourself a satisfying job. Think about if you didn't have those diplomas and feeling the way you do? What stepping stone or leverage would you have to convince a hotel or tour manager of your qualifications? Not a lot.

Do this... use your connections in your job to get time with your hotel manager. If you feel uncomfortable, go to a different hotel, (you must know other people in the industry). Tell them you want 30 min to do an informational interview. Have questions prepared. Ask them about their job, what's it like. What they like and don't like. Do this for jobs in tourism industry too. Find out what sounds interesting and then ask them how you can go about finding a job like that. This is networking. You never know, someone will tell you...ah! I have something you can do....and then it's done. You are on your way. Good Luck!

Two diplomas in management and now you are a cook.

Would you like being a restaurant manager?

Figure out what you really want before receiving more training.

What do you really, really want to do out of the options you have listed? What would be your choice if there were no obstacles in the way? Choose that one, remove any obstacles and off you go.
