Americans: Australia has its first female deputy Prime Minister, and guess what?

The sky did not fall in, in fact no one turned a hair.

You really shouldn't be afraid to have a female leader - it's no big deal.

I agree. Problem is some Americans are very backward and won't vote for ANY woman. Their warped brains think it's a sign of weakness. I hope she gets a chance to be Prez. She's got my vote assuming the Democratic party nominates her.

Actually It is still too early to say who I will vote for, but I am leaning towards her, but if she falls behind Obama, he has my vote. I will not vote for or against Hillary because she is a woman, and just the same, I would not vote for or against Obama because he is black. I just don't believe gender or race should be a determining factor in voting for a president. But so far those are the only two I have any interest in. I'm independent.

Also, I don't think so many Americans dislike her as media leads people to believe. Most Americans I know (all ages and walks of life, independent, democratic, or republican) are leaning towards a democrat this term, and it's pretty obvious that Hillary has a good chance.

I do see your point though, once we get a female president or a male president of race other than white, it will open the doors for for future female candidates as well as candidates of different races.

One last note, I wish more Americans would declare themselves as independent when registering to vote. Why we are locked into a two party system that leads us to the voting booths like cattle is beyond me (aside from corporate sponsorship and bought out media). I personally know several people that could run our country better than any of the running candidates.

Canada had a female Prime Minister during the 1980's named Kim Campbell.

    Life goes on as before.

And in the future (when Rudd - unlike Howard - will see the time fit for stepping down) she will be Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

I cannot think of anyone better to take on the role of Australia's first PM (although, Maxine is a bit of a contender... maybe she'll be Gillard's deputy =)

EDIT: Gillard is ours, so hands off you Americans!! I would happily take Clinton. You don't know a good thing when you see it! Wake up America!

    thanks!

i hope we have a female president soon, too!

none of this "the country isn't ready yet" or hillary isn't good enough (she's better than many of the worse males we've had, but when we have a female prez she'll have to be "perfect" - that's the standard here for women - when women can be as bad as men, then we'll know we've reached equality ;-)

    cheers!

    ~ go hillary! ~

It would be good to see a female US President.

The USA is so backward when it comes to this sort of thing.

They are well behind Britain, Israel, Canada, India, New Zealand, Germany and numerous other countries.

(If the waitress were paid a living wage she wouldn't need tips to survive. Compulsory tipping is another example of how backward the US is.)

theres no fear in having a female leader in the US. in fact its the only way we can get the govt cleaned up.... when the rough and tough (lol) get dirty the women are voted in by popular demand to clean it up...

thats our job discription ya know... they make the mess and we clean it up.....

We are not afraid to have a female leader. We are just scared of what the one who is running will do to our country, if elected.

Well, if your female leader is good why don't you let us have her in America and if we should not worry then you can take Hillary to Australia.

    :)
