Should I change my dog's food?

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I visited family and brought my 14 month old puppy along. She has aIways been a fickle eater and at times to skinny for my liking. I've been able to coax her to eat more by adding yogurt to her kibble. I feed her Merrick, which I know is a high quality dry food. But when we got to my parent's house for the holiday, she really seemed to like the Chicken Soup for Puppy Lover's Soul that my Mom's puppy eats more than the Merrick. I didn't mix the foods to get her stomach acclamated, she just went right to it. Should I stick with what she's had or should I just go right ahead and make the switch? Or maybe should I mix the two for awhile? Thanks for your input.

For those of you who are saying ask the vet... Vet's don't know jack squat about nutrition and take very few hours of nutrition in all the years they are in school. The proof they don't know jack about nutrition is that Science Diet lines theirs walls. It's nothing more then over priced Purina with a name on it that makes it sound good. Don't believe me? Compare labels! It's the same crap.

Id your dog is picky she was likely interested in the other food because.. A.. It wasn't hers. It's different. But given everyday or at home she will probably start sticking her nose up at this food too eventually.

Mix the 2 until the switch is complete or mix the 2 forever if you like.

I've heard good things about Chicken Soup. Try the adult version with her and see if she likes that. I personally thing dogs sometimes get tired of the same stuff all the time so as long as she doesn't have any allergy problems, mix some merrick with chicken soup to transition her to it for a few months and then back to merrick or another really good food. Different foods have different benefits for dogs (kinda like they do for us). Salmon is really good for the heart and skin; and I'm sure lamb and chicken have very good attributes too. Variety is the spice of life.

Finish up the old food by mixing in some of that new stuff--when the old is gone--give her the new--dogs are not to be fat--the recommended diet is what you need to stick to---don't change real quick--the dog will get the poops all over the house--put the food out and let the dog eat when it wants to--stop worrying--they will eat sooner or later---have fun with the baby and good luck.

my two will eat any scraps out of the house expressly the red setter (10 month old) looked under weight I asked vet who said he was fine ribs and all which tend to make him look under fed the jack Russel is more finicky but when hungry will eat they both like the small cat tit bit which I use whilst trying to train the red Setter, look up the ideal weight for the dog by bread or ask a vet you do not want an over weight dog do you?

DEFINITELY MIX the two together for about one-two weeks. Putting a little more each time(of the new) in. That way you won't be cleaning up vomit and she won't have a bellyache. I don't know if I would keep mixing them for more than two weeks. Anyone else have an input on this? Mine were always good after two weeks, so I stopped mixing and they were fine.

the only incident I even have heard of nutrition changing the colour of a canine's fur became into when I observed a canine from the safeguard. when I have been given him he became into in incredibly undesirable shape. He became into underweight and could tire after walking a pair of million/3 mile. His coat became into only approximately white, variety of a cream shade. I positioned him on a high quality nutrition, national opposition greater desirable. whilst he shed his coat and grew a clean one it became into darker than when I have been given him, mild tan. He gained weight, his persistence enhanced and he became between the main good sled canines on my group.

Just change the food and watch your pup. If she shows signs of an upset tummy switch back. Most likely she will be fine. As for her weight, I have a poodle that is so skinny, when I asked the vet about it he said some dogs are skinny and some are fat just like people. So unless your vet is worried about her weight, the don't worry about it.

Ask a vet or a specialist. Don't just go changing, you have to be sure of condition and likes of the dog too.

Yes. The dog needs to be on an exclusive diet of premium food like Hill's Science Diet if you really care about the fog and want it to live a long healthy life. No grocery store or discount store junk.
