Unlike artificial trees, which aren't biodegradable and will remain in landfills for centuries after they are disposed of, Real Christmas Trees give something back to the environment in a variety of ways:

Fresh Cut & Cut Your Own Christmas Trees are biodegradable - the trunk and branches can be used as mulch for gardens, parks or in animal stalls. The mulch provides a protective barrier for the roots of other plants and vegetation while preventing weeds from growing. The mulch then decomposes, providing the nutrients plants need to thrive. Mulching programs are a fast-growing trend in communities throughout the nation. Check with your local department of public works for information.

    * Some communities use Real Christmas Trees to make effective sand and soil erosion barriers, especially on beaches and along river beds. Sunk into private ponds, trees make an excellent refuge and feeding area for game fish.Although artificial tree owners will insist that theirs is a better choice because their tree is being used every year, the average life of an artificial tree is just six years. Then the plastic tree is tossed in a landfill where it will lie in a composed state for centuries.

Recycling has obvious benefits to the environment, whether it be Christmas Trees or newspapers. But being recycled is not the only environmentally-friendly advantage that Real Trees have over artificial ones. Breathe deeply at a Christmas Tree farm and you will enjoy not only the fresh pine fragrance, but also fresh oxygenated air. That's because of photosynthesis: the trees absorb carbon dioxide-laden air and emit oxygen. Just one acre of a Christmas Tree farm produces the daily oxygen requirement for 18 people. Young trees in their rapid growth years have a high rate of photosynthesis and thus produce more oxygen than older trees. For each Fresh Cut or Cut Your Own Christmas Trees harvested, two to three new trees are planted in its place. In the United States, there are approximately one million acres in production for growing Christmas Trees. This translates to oxygen for 18 million people per day.

♥So, be sure to use a Real Tree - the renewable, recyclable resourceas the centerpiece of your holiday celebration.♥

    Nope.

Saint of Sorts... if you chop down a tree, you are killing it *Sigh* I can't believe you actually think that you aren't killing the tree. She didn't say Murder.

Some people really are over the edge. I guess since it's not killing the tree that you don't need to give it water while it's in your home.... or that the needles won't fall out. They shouldn't, cause it's not dying *shakes head*

    Edit:

Where in there am I crying over it? I am just point out that it is Alive to begin with. When you cut it down, it dies. You are the one trying to change definitions of a word and give it a "human" concept when it doesn't have one! rofl!!! Amazing... are you just trying to avoid the whole "kill" thing all together? I mean, if that's just the case, just say so.... geez.... lol I guess when someone shoots a deer during deer season, they didn't kill it either... since the deer isn't human. rofl!!!!

    Edit - again lo

No, actually, we are talking about the word Kill and what it means. It means to end life. Trees are alive... just because they don't move around and make noises like animals or people doesn't mean they aren't alive. If you end that life, then you killed it. It withers and dies. It's actually very simple to understand. lol And you were pretty specific in stating that killing was for humans... a concept for humans... yet you seek to change the definition because you don't think plants are alive. rofl!!!!!!!!!

Saint - it just seems odd that you were trying to hard to say they aren't killed. lol As if Kill is the same thing as Murder (which it isn't). As for being proactive... I realize that we do need to cut down some trees... but I am active in stopping the Demise of things such as the Rainforests. =) Does being given Dominion over the earth mean to wipe it out, though? ;-) Not saying cutting down a pine tree is going to do that... but dominion doesn't mean to take out everything either lol And I never claimed it was a sin nor that anyone would go to jail for killing a tree. I only pointed out that you tried to avoid the word all together and tried to state that it was only a human thing, when it means to end life. You seem to equate it with Murder, when it isn't the same thing. =)

  • Not celebrating Jesus's birthday but celebrating Jesus and what He stands for. I will chop down a tree..(which is not killing anything), and decorate it beautifully in honor of Jesus. Very nice how you try to put human concepts to something that is not even human.

Source(s): Tyr's Own: A tree may be alive but it is not human. Like I said above it is putting human conception to something that is not human. It is like saying.."I killed a cactus" when in fact the word to use is, "destroy", meaning to ruin. And what do you care about "killing" a tree..The paper you write on everyday is the same tree you are crying over. So give me a break. EDIT: Animals are a whole different subject we are talking about plants at the moment. And my context changes when the subject does so stick to the topic at hand. God gave us the Earth to replenish it and do with it what we see fit..doesn't mean we should act against God but in accordance with His wishes. We can kill a Lamb as sacrifice to God then we can also chop down a tree to honor Him. Would you have the former or the latter? Okay Tyre just for the sake of ending this the trees are "killed" when they are chopped down. I never said they were not alive by the way. You make such an effort of pointing out they are "killed" you would think that you would be proactive in preventing their demise. And what are you doing about the trees being "killed"? since you seem so adamant in saying they are "killed" yet you are not doing anything about it. Know that God gave humans dominion over the Earth and to use all that He has created for us to fill our needs. And "killing" a tree is something we won't go to jail for nor is it a sin. So understand the meaning of the word and apply it rightfully so.

Yes...well, I won't do the killing, but I might be along for it. I always feel bad though, if I could just dig them up to replant them later I would.

We do however at least leave it in the backyard afterward until spring, to provide shelter for the little critters, then get out the chipper and use the tree for mulch.

No... we have one of those fake ones... I like the real pine trees though... the smell is just wonderful. But we gotta save the trees!

No and I don't celebrate the birthday of Christ (which wasn't on the 25th of Dec). My family, my kindred, friends and I will be celebrating Yule with a decorated tree (artificial), lights, a Yule log, feasting, toasting and gift exchange. All pagan things.

I don't celebrate the J Mans Birthday, just Christmas, the whole religious thing ruins the feeling for me...

I'm gonna kill a tree just for the sake of decoration. And THEN I'm going to chop it up and burn it for warmth!

Zalem - do you hear the shrieks of the carrots as they are yanked from the ground?
