Why do evangelical conservatives hate science and progress?
Hatred of science:
Making schools teach the mythical theory
of intelligent design.(Its still the proven false theory of creationism), while getting rid of evolution a theory that explains life on earth very, very well. Stopping embryonic stem cell research by the pro-life movement That movement is filled with hypocrites who fight for the life of unborn but still believe in capital punishment. If you are truly pro-life, YOU CANNOT BE FOR THE DEATH PENALTY. Life is life as is death.
Hatred of Progress: The simple fact that there are individuals in the Republican party who love to see America's social laws returned to back before the civil war, where minorities were slaves and women had no rights.
The epitome of this would be Pat Robertson. A man who should be considered a terrorist by any rational thinking person's standards.
For those who don't understand english that well. Mythical from myth meaning a story or work of fiction used to describe something that could not be explained at the time.
For those who commented saying I don't know the difference between intelligent design and creationism. I do know the difference, except for there is the basic foundation of intelligent design that says that some driving force started everything. Mmm, driving force that sounds alot like creationism. Also, I am a former Christian, it just that throughout my life I was exposed to other forms of religion, and came to the realization that for myself, Buddhism and specifically Zen Buddhism which teaches that all things living and non-living are connected spoke to the fact that I am a man of science and not blind faith. Science says that nothing is created nor destroyed, but things are transformed. Christianity is about something from nothing and that does not agree with what I believe in my own heart. Besides the Bible is mostly a work of fiction, almost no real history in it.

Because often people fear what they do not understand.
Do you really think that Republicans are really all that religious? Between their ethical violations, their outright corruption, their lies, their deceit, their adultery, their bearing false witness, their soliciting of other men in bathrooms, visiting of prostitutes, their hypocrisy and their outright dishonesty, how can anyone pretend that they are religious.
Yes, they justify their immorality with religious excuses, they go to church on Sunday (if someone is watching), but whatever religion that they are following, it isn't one practiced by Jesus.

Wow, aren't we cranky today. Maybe if you had a little bit of God in your life you wouldn't be so crabby. I am a evangelical far right wing conservative, I do not hate science and progress. You seriously need to check your sources. Evolution has not been kicked out of schools. Where do you get your info? We only asked the school systems to add creationism with the topic of evolution. Because the 3 main American religions Christians, Jews, and Muslims all believe that is the way the world was created. Sorry if you do not share the same beliefs. Believing in the Death Penalty is way different than being pro life. The death penalty is people paying their consequences. What consequences does a fetus have too pay for? Their parents stupid mistakes? And Hello there are other means of stem cell research than embryonic. I know nobody in the Republican party that would take away ANY rights of women or who would ever dream of owning slaves again. And Pat Robertson a terrorist thinker. LMAO. Robertson does more good in this world than just about anybody I have ever heard of. Try Goggling him and see what amazing things he has done to help this world. What amazing things have you done to help this world? What good have you done? Sorry but I do not consider you a rational thinking person. And I am deeply offended by your question.

What a foolish and ignorant query! Conservatives are the groundwork of truly technology. In Hollywood fantasies you'll discover liberals, however a number of the real scientists, engineers and technologists in human History you'll discover that the vast majority were conservative. Go by way of the record of Nobel prize winners in Physics and Chemistry and mark every Liberal or Conservative. What will you discover? Scientists manage truth and reality. Thus they've a usual predisposition to be conservative. Today such a lot experiences exhibit that worldwide cooling is happening, but any truly scientist will inform you that we do not understand. The information sequence don't seem to be correct sufficient to quite say, and the worldwide local weather items don't seem to be powerful or fidelic sufficient to foretell. The conception of evolution turns out to have left out each (one million) the natural feel that after we see a sequence of constructions in a the town of more than a few a long time we see DESIGN evolution, we will infer that there have been designers and designers and now not simply workmen throwing up presently to be had constructing elements. And (two) the idea of likelihood, for it ignores the recognized statistical likelihoods of the chemical and bodily procedure it theorizes might be wanted. If a specific investigator applies even a modicum of information evolutionary conception is rapidly determined to be inconceivable day-dreamed bunkum. And what magic makes your possess mass of cells any further useful than a fertilized egg? And additionally, sure the arena is flat. We seem out our window, or opt for a stroll -- at that degree the Earth's floor looks flat. It's a recognized conception of geometry that a quick sufficient line phase on a gigantic circle approximates a immediately line. To whom is it priceless to remember the Earth as a globe? Only airliner pilots, ICBM trajectory calculators, a few authorities in technology -- for the leisure folks and such a lot scientists FLAT maps paintings flawlessly! Your query's element suggests how deficient excellent your possess feel of technology is. I am sorry you got any such deficient medical schooling. Still, you will have to now not permit the beyond preserve you again from finding out extra, and discovering the exact truths, reminiscent of we would possibly actually understand them.

They only hate the science that challenges their religious beliefs. They are perfectly happy to accept the science that gives them the light to read their Bibles by, and the medicine that cures them when they are sick, and the science that makes it possible for them to wave around pictures of aborted "babies." That sort of science they love. It's only the science that ticks them off that they reject. Convenient isn't it?
In regard to your additional details, I get a special kick out of those who actually try to claim that intelligent design isn't the same thing as creationism. It's really sort of sad that they don't realize how transparent they are with that schtick. They got their butts handed to them in Pennsylvania in 2005 trying to promote this garbage:
updated 8:20 p.m. CT, Tues., Dec. 20, 2005
HARRISBURG, Pa. - In one of the biggest courtroom clashes between faith and evolution since the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, a federal judge barred a Pennsylvania public school district Tuesday from teaching “intelligent design” in biology class, saying the concept is creationism in disguise.
U.S. District Judge John E. Jones delivered a stinging attack on the Dover Area School Board, saying its first-in-the-nation decision in October 2004 to insert intelligent design into the science curriculum violates the constitutional separation of church and state.
Jones decried the “breathtaking inanity” of the Dover policy and accused several board members of lying to conceal their true motive, which he said was to promote religion.
A six-week trial over the issue yielded “overwhelming evidence” establishing that intelligent design “is a religious view, a mere re-labeling of creationism, and not a scientific theory,” said Jones, a Republican and a churchgoer appointed to the federal bench three years ago.

You ideas about conservatives are just plain stupid. Conservatives promote choice in schools as well as variety in subject matter (evolution is a great theory, but real science requires looking at all options). Liberals are always quick to declare a winner (as long as it furthers their political power) long before data has been collected (i.e. global warming).
Unborn = innocent, murderer = guilty (no hypocrisy here)
Slaves and no rights for women - conservatives support woman and blacks by providing opportunity and freedom. you might consider which party has promoted blacks to the highest level of power (hint: it starts with an R) BTW, what you think of your Ku Klux Klan Democratic senator?
Pat Robertson, terrorist... hahahaha, I'm not a big Pat fan but when was the last time he blew up a bus or beheaded a fellow citizen. What is your definition of terrorist?
Get a clue.

Not all do now, thankfully.
It seems that many are now willing to accept sound science over political dogma.

Yes.
Tradition and superstition trumps progress and science for the fundies.
