What sort of store would you buy fingerprint ink from? I need to do a set to get an FBI clearance.?

Update:

Surprisingly, the FBI does NOT require you to have your prints done by an agency. In fact, their website provides a downloadable PDF file that you can do your own prints on. Here is the link:

I am migrating to Australia and need to get this done for immigration. I also need to get a New York Police Good Conduct Certificate, and that one requires it to be done by a law enforcement agency. The problem is that I can't get a fingerprinting appointment here for 3 weeks, and since the FBI record check takes 16-18 weeks, I want to get the ball rolling sooner.

Update 2:

A quick look at some websites do not recommmend regular inkpads.

What you can buy over the internet in Australia is a lot more limited.

Wow, you don't go buy ink, you go to your local DMV and they do it for you there, don't do anything illegal as it'll catch up to you someday somehow.

I know this post is really old but I felt compelled to respond since there is a lot of misinformation here by responders. You can find fingerprinting ink at Office Depot, Walmart or online. And you CAN submit fingerprints done by yourself to the FBI for a criminal record check. They do NOT require you to have them done by law enforcement or technician. They only strongly suggest that you do so. And for any naysayers out there, I can honestly submit that I've received my criminal background check from the FBI from a fingerprint form downloaded off the website with my prints done by myself just last year. There are other requirements but it can be done without a professional doing them.

If you have to submit your own fingerprints, you must do them through a sheriff's or police department. You can't do it yourself. You could be Al Capone and just copy someone else's prints. Usually you also have to have a picture ID. didn't the application have a special finegrprint form? It should have directions on it. Also when I had to have my fingerprints done for a job, the form came with an envelope . I had to stamp it ahead of time. The sheriff's department took my prints, put the form in an envelope, sealed it and signed it. Then that was put in the bigger envelope and the sheriff's department mailed it. I never had the envelope after I handed it to the officer. Plus I had to include a check to pay for processing the prints and a form to tell them where to send the information. I never saw the prints or information at all. Of course, I am not sure what you will have to do, but be prepared.

You don't need to buy it at a store. Most police stations will do a fingerprinting on you if you explain and give proof of what you need it for. Do keep in mind though, that you will have some fees to pay.

If however, you do insist on buying it, this should help:

The FBI don't accept do it yourself fingerprints. They have to be done by an official agency. And most fingerprints now days are done digitally

I have a security clearance that allows me a press pass, and you don't submit your own fingerprints. That's just goofy. You have to have it done by the agency that is doing your clearance.

To get an FBI clearane I highly doubt they will let you do your own set. Go to a local police station and ask where you can get them done. I think you can do them at police stations, DMV or courthouses.

Wouldn't it be the same sort of ink pad that is used for rubber stamps?
