  • How to approach potential employer about pay scale?

I was offered a new job. I love the company, the people I've met so far, and the duties of the position. The only problem is the pay scale. It is a serious problem.

The applicant requirements lend themselves to someone with 5+ years career experience. They are offering a pay rate equal to 1/2 what someone with no experience would be making.

I made a huge mistake. I initially accepted the offer, and started today doing some training and such. As I got more in depth, I realized the skill set is much higher than the requirements and the job will be much more stressful than I anticipated.

I still want the position, but I can't do it for that pay rate. I anticiapted a pay cut, but it's 60% less than my pervious job (that I no longer have). Between the commute, and taxes, I wouldn't make enough to make it worth it. (And for the record, I am not collecting unemployment- so I'm not leachingoff the system).

How do I approach them about being fair about the pay scale for the position? I want to be fairly compensated, but I don't want to seem greedy. Ideas?

  • Unemployment for part time work?

I was recently laid off. Becuase of health restrictions, I cannot work full time. That is not my choice, and my doctor would never clear it (not to mention it would cause me to get worse).

I have applied for unemployment, but was denied because I cannot work 40 hours a week. I know I can appeal, but I'm so clueless about this. I have always worked, this is the first time I have been laid off. I have applied for jobs, and gotten interviews.

However, I need to know how to get unemployment. It's not fair that I'm working my butt off to find work, and would be disqualified because of a medical condition that is beyond my control and untreatable.

Anyone have any advice or experience? Other than lying and saying I can work full time...

  • Probability Problems- Need to know what I'm doing wrong?

I have two probability questions I can't figure out.

    1) In a Power Ball lotrry, 5 numbers between 1 and 12 inclusive are drawn. These are the winning numbers. How many different selections are possible? Assume that the order in which the numbers is drawn is not important.

    My answer: 95040.

How I got there: For the first possible spot, there are 12 possibilities. For the second, only 11. For the third, 10, etc... Comes out to 12*11*10*9*8=95040

Apparently that is wrong. Can you please explain why?

    2) If the police have 9 suspects, how many ways can they select 5 for a lineup?

My answer: 15120. Same as above- 9*8*7*6*5=15120

Could the answer be 9^5= 59049?

I don't just want the answers. I want to know what I'm doing wrong. Please, help!

  • Compounding interest problem?

I'm not going to hide it- I'm having issues with my homework. Can you please explain how to do this problem?

A couple decides on the following savings plan for their child's college education. When the child is 6 months old, and every 6 months thereafter, they will deposit $310 into a savings account paying 9.5% interest compounded semi-annually. After the child's tenth birthday, having made 20 such payments, they will stop making deposits and let the accumulated money earn interest, at the same rate, for 8 more years, until the child is 18 years old and ready for college. How much money (to the nearest dollar) will be in the account when the child is ready for college?

    Answers:

    $20,472

    $21,845

    $21,053

    $20,978

I have no clue what I'm doing wrong- but my answers are way off. Please help!

  • Child Support When I Can't Work?

Without going into detail, I have medical issues that prevent me from working, potentially forever. I am applying for SSD, but that takes time- and lots of it. My disability insurance through work has been a fight for almost a year now.

My ex and I have been trying to get my support order modified, but the AG's office sucks. We have a court date in March, but I can't afford an attorney.

I'm not a deadbeat. I was current on my child support until I got sick. Problem is, we did direct pay, and the AG's office won't look at the records. They think I've NEVER paid- even when the custodial parent has tried repeatedly to tell them otherwise. They can't get their paperwork straight! I've very active in my children's lives. I may not pay child support per se, but I do what I can. I buy things for them (with the parent's permission). Like new shoes, or pay for the school field trip, etc. I am at every school function. I see them every weekend. You get the idea.

I know every state is different, but I'm trying to get some idea of what could happen. Neither of us even want to be working with the AG's office, and we have tried to stop- for over 2 years. I also just got remarried. I'm worried my husband's income will be considered my income. If it is, we are screwed. He makes good money- but 1) he pays child support for his kids. 2) We spend a very large chunk on my medical expenses- and we have good insurance. Last year alone, I spent $17,000 on my medical, AFTER insurance. No insurance company covers my treatments. My only source of income is my GI Bill that I recieve 8 months out of the year to go to school.

I am not underemployed. I cannot be employed. There is no job out there that can work with what I need for my health. Believe me- I've looked! Going to school (internet classes, so flexible schedule) is my only source of income.

  • Wheels stolen of a truck!?

The wheels were stolen off my boyfriend's truck last night, and it's sitting in my driveway up on blocks. At least they were courteous enough to do that... It's also got a small U-haul trailer attached, but that's only part of the issue.

The insurance company won't do anything until tomorrow, but even when they do- how the heck are we supposed to get tires on it and get it driveable? Anyone ever had this happen or work for a wrecker/shop and know what we should expect?

  • Nausea After Eating!?

For about a month, I've been getting nausueas every single time I eat- regardless of what it is. It's not horrible, but it does affect my life. No vomiting, I'm definitely not pregnant and I'm not overly stressed.

Any clue what could be causing it? It's every time, not triggered by time of day or certain foods.

  • Buy Back Title- How do I Find Out Why?

I am considering buying a vehicle that has a buy back title. Yes, understand that means. I know that the reason it was bought back is public information, but I'm not sure where to find it. I can get an inspection of my own, and I definitely will considering the circumstances.

But do you know where I can find the reason it was bought back? It's a Chevy Equinox.

  • Creative Names for Pool Tournament?

I'm hosting a pool tournament as a fundraiser for a close friend with leukemia. She beat it a few years ago, but has relapsed.

So, I need to come up with something clever to put on the flyers, the radio advertisements, etc. Any ideas?

  • Dealing with ADD in a 5 year old?

My son is incredibly smart, but he is below average in his academics. He is behind in reading, writing and his listening skills are not what they should be. We know it's not because of his intelligence. His own teacher has told us this.

But he is ADD (so is his dad and most of his uncles). He studies things he is very interested in, but could care less about the things he doesn't. Reading doens't interest him, so he doesn't do it. He writes some letters backwards (we are having him tested for dyslexia, just in case). And just zones out in class at school.

Can you suggest anything I can do to help him overcome his issues. I'm not totally against drugs, but dont want to use them. I dont want him hiding behind his disease and using it as an excuse for not performing to a level he is capable of- if that makes any sense. He's only 5.

So what can I do? Any books you can recommend or websites that can give me information on dealing with an ADD child?
