Unemployment for part time work?

I was recently laid off. Becuase of health restrictions, I cannot work full time. That is not my choice, and my doctor would never clear it (not to mention it would cause me to get worse).

I have applied for unemployment, but was denied because I cannot work 40 hours a week. I know I can appeal, but I'm so clueless about this. I have always worked, this is the first time I have been laid off. I have applied for jobs, and gotten interviews.

However, I need to know how to get unemployment. It's not fair that I'm working my butt off to find work, and would be disqualified because of a medical condition that is beyond my control and untreatable.

Anyone have any advice or experience? Other than lying and saying I can work full time...

Update:

So, becuase I cannot physically work full time, I am ineligble to recieve benefits? Working full time is not an option. I am not limiting myself to a specific career path, or even a wage equal to what I've even recieving for over a decade. I'd gladly take something at $10/hr...

I just cannot work full time. My doctor said it could kill me!

If you have a medical condition which prevents you from working full time, you should qualify for Disabilty Insurance (SSI) http://www.ssa.gov/ssi/

You could also work for yourself and set your own hours (house cleaning, child care, or whatever it is you can do).

You cannot (as far as I know) get unemployment unless you are capable of working full time.

With the holidays coming up, you may be able to get a job in retail, and if they like your work they could keep you on (part time).

Unemployment is only available to people who can work full time.
