Buy Back Title- How do I Find Out Why?

I am considering buying a vehicle that has a buy back title. Yes, understand that means. I know that the reason it was bought back is public information, but I'm not sure where to find it. I can get an inspection of my own, and I definitely will considering the circumstances.

But do you know where I can find the reason it was bought back? It's a Chevy Equinox.

Update:

I understand what the Buy Back title means. I know it was a lemon, but sometimes that is because of simple fixes and owners that don't want to deal with it.

I've done my research on teh vehicle and it had a simple recall that turned in alot of them as lemons. It's also gotten great reviews about how the company has fixed it and been very good to the owners of the vehicles now.

What I want to find is why that particular vehicle has a buy back title. If it was part of the recall, I'm not concerned. And that's what extended warranties are for (yes, they are available- even on a lemon).

Most cars that are "bought back" are cars that were returned because of the Lemon Law. The car had a problem the dealer couldn't fix so the manufacturer gave them another car and took the lemon back.

In most cases the car has been fixed or at least warrantied for the problem it had. If you want to know WHY the car was bought back, ask the dealer. I think he's obligated to tell you why. If he knows he can't hide it from you, They are required to disclose all known defects.

    Branded Title Buyback Lemon

99% of the time, buy back means the car was (and may still be) a lemon.

The manufacturer upon reacquiring a vehicle because of specified warranty defect(s) must:

•Request the Certificate of Title and Registration Certificate be marked "Lemon Law Buyback."

•Title the vehicle in the manufacturer's name.

The manufacturer will attach a decal to the vehicle. The decal will read "Lemon Law Buyback" and will be affixed to the:

    •Left door frame or

•Frame of the major entry into the vehicle such as the front right door frame of a motorhome.

•Left side of a vehicle without doors, such as a motorcycle.

    Additional Requirements

When a warranty return vehicle is sold, the transferee must be notified, on letter size paper, of the following:

•The year, make, model, and vehicle identification number.

•That the vehicle title is marked "Lemon Law Buyback."

•The nature of each nonconformity reported by the original buyer or lessee of the vehicle.

•Repairs, if any, made to the vehicle in an attempt to correct each nonconformity.

I guess it could be a "lemon law" situation or a "money back guarantee" deal where the car was bought back.

Ask the dealer why. I don't think anyone else is going to know.

Insist on talking to the prior owner. If it was a lemon, the dealer had 3+ tries to fix the same issues and couldnt do it, find out WHY NOT and why its fixed right this time !

Oh and you should save thousands compared to one that hasnt been bought back.

People never learn and this question is asked here on YA all the time. You NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER,... buy a car without a title. Good luck now as if you don't get the title you don't own a car you cannot legally sell.

thats the lemon law in polite circles/salvage is junk/mentally challenged is brain damaged and the beat goes on/the dealer had three times to fix it and failed/the lemon law was invoked and the factory had to buy it back/maybe its fixed and maybe not/pass the car while you have the chance
