The holidays depress me, Please help me!?

I can't stand winter and most of all, I cannot stand Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. My husband's family is full of greedy kids the we cannot afford to buy for and when we do, they complain their gift wasn't something "bigger, faster, or cooler." Everyone is sick (which my family is now compliments of my sister-in-laws' many kids) and people are super rude in public during the holidays.

If you like the holidays, why? And if not, how do you get through them? I don't know how many more walet-draining, runny nosed kids, fatting food holidays I can take!

Yea, I really wasn't a fan of the holidays either until my kids came along. I just know that it will all be over sooner or later.. As far as the inlaws go.. I'm on your side!

This year, I am going through a photo album buying cheap frames and blowing some old pictures up, if they don't like it they can kiss my hinny!!! Christmas isn't about gifts... That was the speach I gave at Thanksgiving.. :) I set the stage for the gifts those people were getting...

My husband and I always talk about how we will deal with each Holiday together. We first talk about what each of us really wants to do that year, then what our own kids would like, then the extended family, and then other social commitments. We always agree on LIMITS, both money/budget and time limits. Your best bet might be to discuss with your husband ways to limit as many obligations as possible. Most 'obligations' aren't really obligations....and as far as kids go, either tell their parents that you do not wish to exchange gifts this year or buy them $5.00 gift cards to a book store. Part of growing up is learning to be gracious anytime someone gives you a gift, and failure to be gracious has consequences.

I do enjoy the fall and winter holidays....part of this comes from me accomodating my husband and children, and part of it comes from me concentrating on things that are meaningful to me.

I don't know what to say about hating winter. I live in Florida and so winter isn't a big deal for me.

Talk to your husband about doing something different. Take your kids to Disneyland or something.
