Help understanding AP english instructions?
The directions say:
Read Dr. Martin Luther King's "Letters from Birmingham Jail," and write an analysis of all of the causes (and subsequent effects) he discusses as social implications for his and future times and peoples.
I have not changed the directions in any way.
Can someone please explain it differently?

Read the letters.
Try to discern what he believes causes the social problems - now (time he wrote the letter) and in the future.
Create a thesis of what you think he though. (Don't say "I think..." - don't even use "I")
Use quotes that you think show his opinion. Then, after you introduce a quote in your paper, explain it's meaning and what you believe it means and how it relates back to your thesis.

Don't know if this is much help: Analyze the causes and effects Dr King discusses in his "Letters from Birmingham Jail." Include any social implications they may have for his time and people, and the time and people of the next generations.

Read the book/selection.
He lists some things as affecting his time and his people, and the time and people to come after them.
What are the things he discusses? How do they cause his society to be the way it is, and what is the effect of his society being the way it is?
For example, he might discuss how discrimination (the cause) makes it hard for black people in his time to get good jobs (the social implication), which in turn causes poverty and crime (the current effect) and will prevent the children from getting a good education and therefore good jobs (the future effect).
