What happened to Notre Dame Football Program?

Should the Big East if they already haven't end their relationship with this Power House 3 & 9 team?

Update:

Notre Dame had a Big East Tie in to our bowls and gets a 1 lose plus to be in one of our "Big East" Bowls I think that agreement end in 2008.

Notre Dame has never been in a football conference. Talk about something that you are more informed about like maybe Barbies.

I think they missed out on recruitment before the hired Weiss. Give them another year or two, and hopefully they'll be able to compete again.

I didn't think Notre Dame was a part of any conference. They should join the Big 10. Then Big 10 will have an even number of teams again and maybe have a Big 10 Championship game. Big 10 West would have Notre Dame, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. Big 10 East could be Purdue, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State. Then maybe fans of Pac 10, Big 12, and SEC can stop whining about Big 10 not having a championship game.

Once again I have to chime in with the same answer I have given a million times. Its called a bad season, it happens to every team in every sport cept maybe the NY Yankees and Detroit Red Wings ( they never seem to have a loosing season). Anyways, rivals.com and usatoday both have Nortre Dame with the best fresman class recruitment for next season. Those are still verbal and can change but its encouragement. NBC has a relationship with Notre Dame football because they have the largest fan base of any college team in the nation. no argument there.

The Irish also have a long tradition of winning National Champioships and more Heisman Trophy winners then any other program.

Furthermore, Miami, Michigan, UCLA, Penn State, Florida State, Alabama all had programs that were down this season

but try counting up all those winning seasons and national championships.

Age old problem, bring in a coach and if no instant success, can him.. Case in point. Ole Miss canned a good coach the year after Eli left and brought in a coach from USC figuring he would turn the program into national champion, but he was like a recruiting coach and how hard is it to recruit for them. Now he's gone.

Another one was Rocky Felker former QB at Mississippi State came into a program that had nothing and began building it up, but they canned him and brought in Sherill, who reaped the rewards of Rocky's recruiting, then that ran out and State became a door mat. Happens all the time.

ND dumped a coach who is now at Washington and building back to the days when they gave up 40 rushing yards a game. I figured the former NE O coach inherited a bunch of good recruits and had success on the work of the other coach and now this.

I do find it amazing with the pool they can draw from due to the Church affiliation. It seemed like 1963, when they had the academies 'whup" them. Sunbelt conference would be more appropriate now, naw just kidding. Take care. Not picking on Sunbelt just using as example.

Add on: You have some classic answers here! Then again joe had a rough season also, just not as rough.

    it's simple...graduation and inexperience happened

almost all of notre dame's key players from last year were seniors, and now they've all graduated, leaving inexperienced kids to try to carry the team, and the pressure proved too great...i know before the season i predicted 6 wins, and some predicted as many as 9 or 10 for them, but even in hindsight 6 was too many to expect with the amount of youth they had against their schedule

They're not actually members of the Big East, but they can take one of the Big East's bowl bids when they are eligible, AND when the Big East doesn't have enough eligible teams.

As to your title question, it's obvious that the country's top high school players simply don't think much of the tradition at ND. This makes recruiting more difficult for a school in a cold-weather state like Indiana.

  • nobody will end their relationship with Notre Dame....

eventually, when they turn the program back around, they'll be bringing in huge money to everybody who plays them

plus.......it always feels good to beat up on the Fighting Irish

THey decided to drop a coach that they had no business dropping, then they picked up fat a** charlie and now they look like a high school team.

They are in the big east in basket ball not football. They are independent, which is part of the reason they are down.
