Why is it when we talk to God, we're said to be praying, but when God talks to u we're schizophrenic?

Update:

this probably should go in the religion & spirituality section or psychology...?

Prayer is one thing, but when it comes in the other direction, there is no evidence of anything

  • Well psychologically, there's not really anything wrong with you if you pray. You're simply engaging in an exercise where you are expressing your desire for some (usually good) event or fortune. It is not much different from simply saying something like, "I hope I do well on the test tomorrow."

When you hear voices in your head, that is not normal brain function. There are actually certain regions of the brain which, if damaged, can result in hyper-religiosity. Which, although I am atheist, is not to say that religion is a form of mental illness. The point is that hallucinations, since they originate in your brain, always _seem_ very real as a result. And if a person has religious leanings to begin with, then it makes sense that an audio hallucination may be interpreted as having come from god.

This has to do with how people are conditioned to think. Joan of Arc heard God and was thought to be a Saint. This all depends on the other persons perceptions and why they came to these beliefs. It could be different for for different people. A doctor might think it because it was what he was taught in school. A layman might think it, cause it is what the doctor said. I hope this makes sense. If you ask in a philosophy board, you have to look at all angles of the question. This could go in directions that you did not mean.

that's the non believers that think of we are wacko whilst God 'speaks' to us. they actually think of that God speaks to us in a real voice. God speaks to our hearts. purely chatting with God is praying. I try this daily, I do exactly not voice it consistently. There are some those that have an quite serious psychological situation the place they even have faith that God advised them to kill somebody. God does not let us know to kill all of us. those form of the form of those that are schizos and prefer serious help.

depends on the culture. Our culture denies the spiritual experience (although it's willing to let one go through the motions of praying).

ergo, if one hears from God or a higher power (which our culture says is imposible), mental illness must be the reason.

God moves in most mysterious ways his wonders to perform. (I borrowed than line from a hymn.) If you start getting direct commands without the presence of a burning bush, you are probably just hearing voices

Because most people that talks to God gets no reply

It's because people are afraid of what God would actually say to us when He speaks to us. That's my best guess.

So you are saying that everybody that has a conscience is schizophrenic. God talks through the conscience, bible and things that happen around us. You're conscience is the voice of God.

Because most everyone's talked to God at some point,

And most no one's had him talk back.

We don't like it when others are different.
