Covered tattoos.....?
What is with all the people on here over the last few days? People are asking if they should get a tattoo ect... and the first thing most people are saying is "yeah get the tattoo but get it some place that can be covered".
I hate ignorant people that think it's ok for people to get tattoos as long as they are covered. I see tattoo as beautiful art work and i love to see it on people why cover it?
MY QUESTIONS ARE.....
Do you feel like you have to cover your tattoos? Do you find people with tattoos less attractive because they have ink? Would you not date someone just because they have visable tattoos? How do you view tattoos and why?

I love all my tattoos. However, work does not. I have to wear a thick-banded watch on my right arm just a little higher than where a normal watch would sit, because work disagrees with me on tattoos. Not all jobs are like that, but many places are. I think that's what people are getting at when they say to get them someplace that can be covered up. When I'm not at work, I don't cover my tattoos. I think tattoos can make a person more beautiful, even if it's only because it's something that has meaning to that person, and gives them confidence. Tattoos and piercings would never effect what I think about people. When I look at old pictures of myself, where I'm missing a tattoo or piercing, I think I look so naked and awkward. I think that my tattoos make me more beautiful and show off my personality more.

In a perfect world it shouldn't matter if you have a tattoo and were trying to get a certain job, etc. Unfortunately it's not a perfect world though and I can understand why those who are just starting out in life need to be careful about tattoo placement.
I didn't get my first one until I was 38. I'm at a point in life where I don't care what other people think - self employed, so not worried about a job.
The only time I do cover my tattoos is if I'm at my son's school. Those people are generally not open minded or accepting and I don't want MY choices to affect HIM.

I like them, they are interesting, and individual.
I was talking to a friend today who is getting one, and we were discussing their significance. I had an idea that they are nice reminders of a different time, something that will always be with you, good or bad. wierd though, because I have 2 right now, and those times (like how and where exactly I was in my life) are kinda fading in my memory, but some things stay.
our conclusion was that the philosophy or psychology of why and what they do to you isn't that important.
it's individuality and decoration and a part of you that you put there until you're done.
my first tattoo nobody ever saw, and I wondered that if I had a visible tattoo, would if I'd act different, like to show it off or something.
and I don't think I do, now that I've had a visible one for a year or so now.
where I live in brooklyn, ny. tattoos seem more common and generally accepted.
people are people, tattoos don't really change them, I've found.
they may make them look cooler or more intimidating, or more 'complicated', but people are people.
I don't think I'd get one on my face or hands, maybe my hands but white ink?
I don't know why, perhaps so I could cover them completely, if I wanted to.
sometimes I don't want people to see my tattoos, for different reasons, if I don't necessarily like you, I really don't want to share anything about me with you, I think that's usually the reason.
in conclusion, tattoos are awesome, get as many as you want, and the dude with the sleeves and the negative14 gauge earholes is just another dude, waiting for the train.

I wish the world was more open minded, but sad truth is alot of people, people with the power to give you a job, are very narrow minded. I love my tattoos and do not regret any of them, but they can all be covered. The only one I would change is my chest tattoo, I would of, in hindsight, gotten it lower as I now have to dress very conservatively in my professional wear. It shouldn't matter that I have 6 tattoos, all that should matter is that I'm a great accountant, but the bottom line is that it does matter. Visibility is subjective as well. I consider my tats to be fairly visible, I have a chest piece, an ankle piece, one on the back of neck, but I don't have, or plan on getting any on my arms. I don't disparage people for getting them there as I feel it is an individual choice. Just alot of stuff changes from when you're 18-21 and start getting tattoos until your a "grown up" When I got my first tattoo I worked as a waitress/bartender, and thought that was what I was gonna do for the rest of my life. Well, come my mid 20s I regretted not going to college and wanted more in life. Now I'm an accountant so those flowers on my chest are frowned upon by stuffed shirt types and must remain covered in professional settings.

Personally, I put mine in easily covered places for work reasons. I have a couple on my wrists that I'm supposed to have covered at work, but most of the time I don't bother. I don't want to jepordize an employment oppotunity based on a personal choice that is not seen as professional. I'd love to get some more visible tattoos, but I need medical insurance more than I need everyone to see my ink. I have 2 tattoos and 2 in planning stages. I love getting them and I love having them and all of mine have deep personal meaning, so I know I won't regret them. I'd happily date someone with tattoos; the more the better, but it's not a requirement.

I think there are 2 perspectives
Yes. tattoos are a work of art and they are beautiful, BUT a BIG BUT they are very controversial in this world. Most of the population IS ignorant and DOES think less of people with tattoos. For instance, someone might not get the JOB they've always wanted to do because they have tattoos. You appearance is very important to others, not just yourself, therefore I think tattoos AREN'T for everyone. I have tattoos and being in the entertainment industry and working with Disney, Food Network and other jobs that are REALLY in my passion AREN'T always going to like the example I may be setting to other parent's kids, so YES i TRY to cover my tattoos :)

I have tattoos but I like to keep mine covered because not all people are as open minded as you are. I don't really care about what other people think about me most of the time, but I also don't want to have problems finding jobs because I have stuff on my arms. I have 13 tattoos and you can see some if I wear a tank top, but most people don't think I have any. My tattoos are for me and not for anyone else. I think tattoos are beautiful!

I don't have any tattoos, but I do plan on getting one in the future. And, I plan on putting it somewhere that it can easily be covered if I choose it to be.
My reason for this is because of job purposes. Some, if not all, ask their employees to cover their tattoos. Sometimes even their facial piercings (nose, eyebrow, lip).
As far as people being less attractive..it really does depend on what the tattoo is of, how big it is and the placement of it.
My fiance is considering getting a tattoo and I could care less where he puts it. It's his body.
I think tattoos are a way for people to express their feelings for something/someone. I mean, it's on their body permanently unless they pay to get it removed...so they must really care about something/someone to get it tattooed on their body.

I feel no need to cover my tattoos. If I did I'd be wearing long sleeves all the time. I think my tattoos are beautiful artwork that deserves to be shown off. I bought sleeveless shirts with most the back showing for that reason. It's just sad that I pretty much have to cover my back tats in the winter.
I don't find people any more or less attractive with ink. It's how they carry themselves, their attitude, etc. Ink has nothing to do with that. Of course I'd date someone with tattoos; I'd love it if my boyfriend got one but he doesn't, and that is fine with me I love him either way.
Maybe people say to get it someplace that can be covered because some jobs don't allow it, but in my opinion if ya want the ink you should be able to show it off whenever you want to!

i got my tattoo's in a place i could view them all day long at anytime of day, so they are very visible, i enjoy seeing other tattoo's as well, even if i don't find the design appealing i look to see if the skill it was done with was good. it's not always about the design but how it was done, the coloring, shading, and how well the intricate work was done.
i don't think anyone is less attractive due to a visible tattoo, i am generally more drawn to them, and just yearn to ask them about theirs and how many more do they have.
one of my favorite TV shows is NCIS and Abby is my hero cause she is so funny and smart---and hey she has great taste in music and INK art, the actress playing Abby has 14 tattoo's IRL.
i have never covered up my tattoo's and have had jobs were they are acceptable being visible. although i did lose out on a job once due to my fingernails being too long (?)
and yes i would date some one with Tattoo's and maybe just maybe date some one who is non-inked (but only maybe)
