Tom Osborne's decision unprecedented?

Has a program ever hired a former coach as interim AD before?

Has an AD appointed themselves as coach to continue recruiting during a coach search?

Did anyone foresee Dr. Tom making this kind of move?

What impact do you suppose this will have on recruiting- while a grand gesture (I know if TO showed up on my front porch I'd throw on the red) do you suppose it will impact many recruits decisions?

I think it's simply a formality while he tries to convince Pollini to do the job.

Smart move by Osborne to appoint himself interim coach so he can go out and visit recruits while a head coach is hire. Some are making the move that he be hired as the permanent AD. The last few years have been a joke in Nebraska. With all the money that school gets from their alumni something had to be done to still stay competitive in the recruiting war

Osborne might be the only guy to revive this program but it'll be tough. Recruiting is a little bit different from when Nebraska was at the top of their game; they might not be able to compete for recruits in the Mid-west (especially in Texas and Oklahoma).

And they also have to find a coach with a system that be implemented quickly (not a west coast or spread option which requires supreme talent at the skill positions) like a run heavy offense (with a little bit of play-action).

Also, defense is thier biggest problem and they need help at every level.

I think the ones that hired him fully expected him to take the reigns after he fired Callahan. A lot of ex coaches become AD. As for recruiting, I think it's ok that he is helping, but until they name a coach, the only kids that would go to Nebraska because TO showed up at the door, would be kids that are going to Nebraska no matter what.

I think Osborne is the only man that can take the Huskers back to glory.
