  • John McCain, American hero?

"On another contentious issue, the Senate softened a labor-backed provision requiring that only U.S.-made iron or steel used in construction projects paid for in the bill. A move by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to delete the so-called Buy American requirement failed, 31-65." -David Espo

  • Tom Osborne's decision unprecedented?

Has a program ever hired a former coach as interim AD before?

Has an AD appointed themselves as coach to continue recruiting during a coach search?

Did anyone foresee Dr. Tom making this kind of move?

What impact do you suppose this will have on recruiting- while a grand gesture (I know if TO showed up on my front porch I'd throw on the red) do you suppose it will impact many recruits decisions?

  • The Wetzel Plan?

Dan Wetzel describes a college playoff system in his Yahoo column this week, perhaps some of the playoff advocates can help me figure out some points of contention...

    1. Statistics- do we differentiate regular season (to compare against past players) and playoff stats, continue taking stats in the current way but footnote everything in regards to the playoff system, or some other solution?

    2. Losing Champion- Wetzels brackets have 7-5 Central Michigan matched up against #1 Mizzou, giving the top rated team a "near breeze" in round one. Suppose the Chippewas do the unthinkable and not only beat Mizzou, but win out and be champion at 11-5... is that really going to make people happy the BCS is gone?

    3. Scheduling- when do the playoffs happen? Finals and Christmas kind of rule out a lengthy December playoff for students, so does college start running through Jan. and Feb. concurrent with the NFL playoffs, sharing airtime?

  • Could a wood fire substitute for sunlight in photosynthesis?

Practical problems (maintaining the flame, heat damage to plant, etc...) aside, could the light from a wood fire substitute for sunlight to grow plants?

The question could be rephrased "What aspects of light do plants require for growth, and does a wood fire emit them?"

  • Big12 North finally turning it around?

Colorado upsets 'national champion contender' OU

K-State is in position to upset top10 UT

Nebraska is 4-1 only losing to #1 USC

Missouri is undefeated and climbing in the polls

    Kansas has outscored opponents 214-27

Iowa St... um.... well... beat Iowa?

Not saying they're the SEC, or even remotely great, but has the perennially embarrassing Big12 North finally started turning it around?
