John McCain, American hero?
"On another contentious issue, the Senate softened a labor-backed provision requiring that only U.S.-made iron or steel used in construction projects paid for in the bill. A move by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to delete the so-called Buy American requirement failed, 31-65." -David Espo

Yeah, well go ahead and see how China treats us with our trillions of debt to them if we do not buy any big ticket items from them.
We need to stop relying on other countries for a lot, and money is a good place to start.

Trying to help keep American businesses IN business, rather than have too many greedy hands overcharging for the raw materials to create economical and affordable American products?
Do you think this is a problem????
Ok...let's look at the US auto industry. Did you know that labour costs for the average automobile factory worker is exactly DOUBLE that of a comparative worker in Japan...another G7 nation?
Would you like to buy an American-made car, overpriced, full of defects due to lower quality materials purchased in order to try to keep costs down, that depreciates much faster than foreign vehicles?
In other words, would you buy a nice BMW or Toyota Car, 2/3rds the price of a comparable US-made car, when you know that the US car is a gas-guzzler, has shoddy mechanical design work, depreciates quickly, and is a maintenance nightmare?
While at the same time, the foreign made car runs better, is easier on gas, is faster, has less maintenance problems, keeps its value longer, and runs a few years longer than the comparable US model?
McCain was simply trying to get an edge on the industries that have far too many cost overruns, so that they might lower their prices, so that someone might actually BUY them.
Your definition of "Hero" is suspect. McCain is a Vietnam war hero, awarded the Silver Star and the Pour le Merite. Look these medals up, and their criteria for being awarded, before you challenge this great man.
You are confusing economic politics with heroics.

The Buy American part of the bill is not a good thing. It is what is called protectionism and the last time it was tried it started an international trade war, oh, and that was during the beginning of the Great Depression. It put a lot more Americans out of work than jobs saved.

John McCain POW. Thanks for the Service but politics not the war took this mans spine. That is one of the reasons only Sarah Palin could energize his campaign. He is not backing the Buy America because It might cause bad will with the European Countries. Screw European Countries we need the business.
I live in Ky. and We have North American Steel. Most of this is shipped to China and Saudi. We could buy America Steel but Thanks John. Another reason he lost the support of the GOP base.

The NAFTA and 7 other free trade agreements we have with Asian countries will shoot down the above restrictions.
Korean Steel and Japanese Steel is better quality anyway and cheaper to buy and ship to the US, than buying US steel.

I served, McCain served, i did no longer get shot down over Nam, many others did, some human beings gave our all, all and sundry gave some. maximum individuals will in no way overlook those years. in basic terms through fact we served there is not any ought to think of human beings as hero's. We did what became into anticipated human beings for the time of an exceedingly complicated time. in case you have been an grownup for the time of that factor you would be finding on the international lots in yet in any different case, the two then and now. in the 50's and early 60's the value gadget became into lots distinctive, we grew up in basic terms after the Korean conflict(conflict). We have been conditioned to think of extra suitable ineffective than pink, (communism) became into the main important possibility to our international. We observed darkish shadows everywhere, the international became into afraid that if the invading forces from North Korea won then communism might take over that area of the international. We have been given in touch as area of a multi national UN subsidized stress to safeguard South Korea. We did our job, and we are nevertheless there right this moment. some years later the French got here to Eisenhower requesting our suggestions in Vietnam. The locals have been attempting to get the French out of what became into commonplace as Indochina on the time, and the French have been dropping badly on the time. Ike(Eisenhouer) agreed to alleviate the French and set up a puppet government in the country. the rest is historic previous. The U.S. misplaced over fifty 8,000 troops, doing some thing we had no organization doing. Ike have been given us in touch, and that involvement persisted during the administrtions of Kennedy, Johnston & Nixon. apparently this u . s . a . did no longer learn a ingredient from the loss ot those lives, now we INVADE a rustic to oust it relatively is chief, and attempt to impose a sort of government on them that they apparently do no longer want. what number extra lives are we going to lose this time around? Now if those human beings that served are heros on your eyes effective. The question i desire to ask now could be what do you call people who hid in secure havens on a similar time as courageous servicemen & women individuals placed their lives on the line for the time of that quantity of time? i like to call them chickenhawks, and a lot of of them are area and parcel of the (mis) administration that has despatched such a lot of to die for a lie.

No ....
He is not a hero in my book
Anyone who uses deception to a mass of people ?
Like AMERICA ?
no ... all hero status is gone.
plus being captured is no sign of a hero.
Being killed, making it back is more of a hero than getting captured.
I doubt if he has stock in foreign steel yet. I bet a lot of the people he is catering to does.

McCain is a War hero and deserves our thanks and respect. As for the bill he supported, it was a long term plum and he was thinking of the future. Too many people want a little money now and have to pay a lot later. Lets make it the other way around shall we?

McCain is a globalist like W. and Obama.
It is interesting that if you took the Scottish meaning of his name, Mc means Son of, so he is a Son of Cain.
Something to think about.
Don't you dare, though, even THINK of casting dispersion upon his record as a military hero, getting captured after being shot down and surviving the horrors of a Vietnamese POW camp...
Don't you dare.

Toffee - Clearly you have not examined the Congressional record with anything but the most indoctrinated and jaundiced eye.
And if you think your foot could do for our troops all the things McCain has done, or if you think your foot saved any troops in Viet Nam, or if you think your foot brought any of the measures to the Congressional floor that McCain did, then how come your foot wasn't in the presidential race?
Learn what you are talking about before you blurt it out.

Take your anti-American attitude somewhere else. It may be acceptable among your fellow Democrats, but it is not appreciated in the light of day.

Sean F- I wouldn't worry about STARTing a trade war.
We can't start a war we have been losing for the last 50 years. Our precious allies and our "most favored" trade partners have been waging economic warfare against us for that entire time. It's time we look after the folks at home that our "friends" are out to kill with their "free trade"

Smsmith5 -- I know of at least 20 foundries that I have driven past, and the one I know people from is still running. Those particular people have not mentioned any shutdowns or layoffs or any appearance of trouble in their industry.
I think you better check your facts.

You are right, but let's not forget where the credit for that goes.
CEOs
Legislators
Unions
Greedy, lazy, complacent, over-promoted workers.
The CEOs of the big 4, which was pared down to the big 3 later on, were approached by Deming with the Statistical Process Control and TQM curriculum, and they laughed him out of the country. The Japanese took him in and thrived because of it. The big 3 are still playing catchup in a retarded sort of way.
The legislators have passed law after law hampering efficient production, robbing the companies of their ability to rid themselves of poor-quality workers, and encouraging them to outsource their production offshore and mercilessly taxing the production of those who do not.
The Unions, for all the good they did early on, have grown into an army of communist ideologues. They finagle laws and rules to prevent anyone from stopping their terrorist actions and force companies to turn a $20-per-hour honest, skilled career job into a $70-per-hour invitation to slothfulness, complacency and intracorporate cultural sabotage.
The workers, in keeping with the direction of today's education system, are knowingly, willingly, ably and quickly sinking into the depths of depravity with respect to their work ethic.

Okay, recordde, you win the prize.

Really? Where's yours?
"plus being captured is no sign of a hero.
Being killed, making it back is more of a hero than getting captured."
This shows how little you actually look into what you are ranting about. McCain was shot down and overpowered by enemy troops he had been shooting at.
You know * * N O T H I N G * * of military ethic.
"I doubt if he has stock in foreign steel yet. I bet a lot of the people he is catering to does."
Well, apart from your pathetic grammar, I will readily concede this last point to you.

If we honor our veterans and all this support our troops blah blah, why are there thousands of homeless Vietnam vets and many more not receiving the medical attention and benefits they rightly deserve from this current war and any of the others??? Also why did Bush choose to cut funds for the troops and then we see commercials asking US for donations??? McCain was nothing more than another Bush, except maybe he can speak proper English. Nothing more, nothing less. As far as Obama......didn't vote for him either, but we'll have to see if he's full of it like all the others.
