Logarithm question?

If log of 5 base a = 1.77 and log of 2 base a is 1.23

Find log of (Fourth root of two over 5) base A

The correct answer is -0.64, but I can't seem to get it. I come up with -1.4625, where am I going wrong?

I use the quotient rule, and then the power rule, but come up with the wrong answer. =/

    log of 2^1/4 base a - log of 5 base a

    then 1/4(1.23)-(1.77)= -1.4625

Maybe whoever told you the answer forgot the fourth root thing, because 1.23-1.77= -.64

Find log of (Fourth root of two over 5) base A

    Log(2^0.25/5) = log(2^0.25) – log 5 = 0.25 log(2) – log(5)

    = 0.25 x 1.23 – 1.77 = -1.46

If I have understood the question correctly, then I seem to agrre with you!
