Motorcycle issues?

I replaced my battery in my motorcycle and it ran for a while fine then I started a new job and didnt ride it except once a month or so and now it won't stay charged. I will charge it fully and it will run but when I turn it off and let it sit for a couple of hours it is dead. Do I need a new battery?

    YES.

Or have a mechanic put a meter on it.

Then he can tell you to go get a new battery.

Make sure your alt/gen is charging the battery; if its an older bike with a generator, you have to polarize the regulator or it wont charge. Also remove the pos. cable & put a test light between the cable and the pos. post. With the key off the light will not go on, if it does, you have a power draw so start pulling fuses until you get to the one drawing the power out, then fix the draw; most likely a loose ground or the insulation came of a wire. Good luck

Clean both ends of both cables. A corroded ground wire, often where it bolts to the engine, is a common cause of a battery not charging.

    Let it sit???

Remove it from the motorcycle and try that test again.

It might be your motorcycle has a short somewhere.

sounds like you may have a short or loose connection somewere. If you can find the problem then charge your batt. and hit the trail.
