Motherboard Question?

From the information I got in Y!A, I have come to the conclusion that the motherboard on my HP Pavillion is the cause of my computer not coming on. I have searched HP Parts, and the original board in no longer available. My question is: Will any other board, that is compatible with the P4 chip, be a workable solution to getting this computer running again? If not, please make suggestions, or should I just ditch the whole idea, and pull the hard drive, and put it into another computer?

Thanks in advance.

yes you can use another brand of motherboard. my recomend is bring the P4 chip processor, system memory, and video card and show it to the vendor of mother board. that should do it. but definitely your old windows will not work anymore together with all your programs. so u have to set up again the windows. you dont have to reformat it if you dont want to loose all your programs. just install the windows and the old windows system files will be over written.

No. The HP Pavilion is a proprietary motherboard so you can't go and get just any motherboard. Even if you could, the RAM many not be compatible, so it gets complicated. If you just put your HD in another PC, there is a chance Windows will no longer work due to the different drivers. You are usually better off just biting the bullet and get a new PC. Saves a lot of time and hassle.

Sure as long as the ram and video card are supported on whatever board you are going to get. Just make sure the video and ram can work or else you might as well build a computer from the ground up.

Of course yes. It's not necessarily to have original HP motherboard. Actually it doesn't really matter, it's just HP brand. And now you can get better motherboard for example Asus or Gigabyte brand.

    go to www.newegg.com

    www.clubit.com

    www.tigerdirect.com

You'll find a lot of motherboards for your PC.

    Good luck!
