Now that Murtha has said the surge is working shouldn't Congress pass the war funding bill as is?
The War Funding Bill is stuck in Congress because it does not have a definite date for troop withdrawl, the Democratic Leadership claimed it needed the withdrawl date because the war is being lost and our toops need to come home. Now that tone of their biggest anti-war voices has said the surge is working shouldn't we fund the war to its fullest extent and help end it sooner?
Flipper- we still have bases in Japan and Germany are ou implying we are still at war with them?
Flipper- I think you may be a little mixed up the bases were established as part of the treaties signed to end the war and were deamed needed to weed out the units that didn't see it as fit to surrender with the regular military units of Germany and Japan and launched an insurgency against the occupying forces. They remained, in Germany at least, as a detorant to the Soviet Union after the Geman Insurgency was defeated. I am not sure but the bases in Iraq would probably fall under the same stipulation only replace Soviet Union with Iran....

They should have already passed it, they are making even bigger fools of themselves than they already have.

To end the war sooner, they should cut off all funding. That would bring our troops home.
Guess you didn't hear about the agreement the US just signed with Iraq...the one that says we're going to have PERMANENT BASES there?! End the war?? Are you sure about that??
EDIT: No, we're not at war with Germany or Japan, but we didn't establish those bases there when we WERE at war with them. Those bases came after the war, when we were invited to stay.
The bases in Iraq will be used for "continuing actions" against the insurgents...sounds like a continuing war to me!

How does it help it end sooner? What are the Iraq politicians doing that the surge was supposed to help them do and you really didn't listen to what Murtha said did you only some half azzed lazy reporting on it since he really said "I think the surge is working but that's only one element. It's working because of the increase in troops," he said, "but the thing that has to happen is that the Iraqis have to do this themselves" Notice the Iraqi portion of the statement
