What places in the US are great to live?

We (myself, my 3 daughters, 3 grandkids and a son-in-law) moved to a small town very near Nashville, TN called Hendersonville 6 1/2 years ago from Las Vegas. We absolutely love it here. We can commute easily to the city for work and to take advantage of the many, many amenities there and also have the luxury and quiet of small town life. The schools are great, the people warm and wonderful and there are lots of shopping areas and restaurants here. We've got a good hospital here, but are also close to the world class hospitals in Nashville- Vanderbilt, Baptist, St. Thomas and Centennial. We also have many colleges and universities in the area. Housing is still affordable here and there is no state income tax. We are right on Old Hickory Lake so there are water activites including, fishing, boating and beaches. There are lots of parks, historic homes, and kid's programs to keep everyone busy. Although it is a predominantly "causasian" town, there is a range of other ethnicities and races. We're Jewish and there certainly aren't many other Jews, but we've never felt at a disadvantage- (except during the Christmas concerts!) My granddaughter is bi-racial and all we've ever experienced is acceptance. I'd love it if Hendersonville was more diverse, but the only way that will happen is if other races and cultures actually move here! We're originally from SF, so are used to a much more diverse and liberal atmosphere, but we really have found our home here. It's a great place to live- check it out!

Palm Springs, Ca. or surrounding area. Very low crime rate, some of the best schools in the country, very little gang activity, nice weather year round. 1 and a half hour from the LA beach area, 2 hours form colorado river, 1 hour from ski summot for winter skiing, some of the best shopping malls and districts in the country (can often find many movie stars in our malls). Golfing, Tennis, Hiking, Walking, Running, Biking, skating, areas through out the whole valley. Follow the link for more info.

In the midwest: Chicago area, Indianapolis area.

In the Northeast: Rhode Island, Massachusetts. (New York too expensive).

I'm not a big fan of the south or west (although beautiful), but if I had to, I'd say Atlanta for the south (great city), and Seattle area for the west.

Denver Colorado

Omaha, Nebraska.

Pueblo, Colorado.

Portland, Oregon.

North Carolina ... but personally I think the Carolina's are nice, Tenn along the Smokey mountains are nice. Virginia is a nice state too. Alexandria, Va is a nice place to live.

Upstate NY - the finger lakes region. No earthquakes, no hurricanes, no tornadoes, low crime rate. One bad thing though, high taxes.

Midwest

Chesapeake, Virginia.

Manasses, Virginia.

Belleville, Michigan.(hospital and great environment wise)

Gulf coast of Mississippi is great for employment.

Phoenix Arizona is good for employment.

Arizona...maybe?...hehe(not completely sure)...if you dont mind hot @ss summers and like nice cool winters with no snow Arizona is the place for you....
