    Hi retwwwman,

Your question got cut off but, my guess is that it concludes ...... a sign of getting ready to go to the other world?

Sadly, that has been my experience. When a dog is nearing the end of it's life and know it, they often show this kind of behaviour.

I'm sorry for my answer - I hope I'm wrong.

Our dog is either 20 or 21 also. Very old for a dog! he has his good days and bad days. He is almost completely deaf except to loud noises and his sight isn't all that good anymore. Some days he gets up and sways and just stares for a few minutes before he attempts to walk. Other days he acts like he is 5 years old again. I have seen him lay down and have a small seizure and pee himself and I have seen him run around the yard with friends dogs. So to answer your question, if he still has good days then leave him be. If he gets to the point where he can't walk or eat etc it probably is time. We will probably have to make a decision sometime in the next year also if he gets worse. Do we let him die in his sleep or have him put to sleep? Hopefully he goes on his own. Everyone we know is amazed he is still alive at his age. BTW he is a mutt and was never fixed if that has anything to do with it.

My dog would do that. She was 17 (Rottie) She would just stand with her head in a corner. She wasn't blind, her hearing was failing, but she could still hear.

She would also stand and act like she was barking..open her mouth and throw her head back..but nothing came out.

She did have thyroid cancer and kidney failure. Her back end went out on her and that is when I had her put down.

Take him to a vet for a good check up it could be many things, especially at that age.

Is he having problems getting up or laying down, has he lost his appetite or loosing weight too quickly?

Once the vet has looked over your dog he/she will be able to determine the best course of action based on their findings.

Prepare yourself and your family in the event that it may be time to say good bye in the kindest way possible.

    Good luck :)

Bless his heart. How long has he done this? It could be that he feels more secure in a tight space due to dizziness, lack of balance, etc. At his age there are a host of things that could be wrong, and he may be in pain. Why not take him to the vet for an evaluation?

My dog did that when she was very old. She lost her eyesight, and stopped doing anything normal. She would sit in the corner facing the wall, it was quite pathetic and sad. When she stopped enjoying herself, and eating, wanting to go out to potty, then we knew she was ready to go. I believe dogs go through the aging process like people, in a way. It's possible your mom's dog is just getting ready to go to heaven. Just love her and take care of her the best you can. It's a blessing to have her go to heaven at home with the people she loves.

It is a sign of dementia. It is a common problem in older dogs. Many of them have "corner" issues too. And many of them have issues burying themselves. It seems like they need to feel "confined" or "held" when they become confused.

He may be blind. He may be in pain. Have him checked by the vet. It may be time to say goodbye.
