What color usually is the cytoplasm in epidermal cells? What about guard cells? What causes the separation of the cell membrane from one or more sides of the cell?

    It is usually clear. The green color comes from the chloroplasts in the mesophyll cells beneath them. The guard cells contain chloroplasts so the color comes from the chlorophyll in these organelles. Loss of water from the central vacuole.
